Hi I'm Alma (Patty) Gastelum-Mercado

I grew up in Mexico. I love spending time with my siblings and my two beautiful kids. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a single mom of two beautiful boys. I love spending time with my kids on all of their sports; Wrestling, Football, Baseball and now Track and Field. Yep, I do spend most of my evenings and Saturdays at their competitions. Oh, and I also spend sometime at Scouting activities, LOL. I love going for walks. My dream is to go back to school when my kids are on their own. I enjoy learning new things.

Why I am a Mormon

I remember knowing about the LDS church since I was a kid. I used to work on a Post Office building and used to see missionaries all the time. But honestly, I never paid attention to them or the gospel, until I was a young adult; My friends were mormons and they invited me to church, I started going and learning about the purposed of our lives and why are we here and what can we do to go back to our Heavenly Father. I learned a lot from other's testimonies, but what made me convert to this gospel was when I discovered the peaceful feeling I could have if I have a better knowing of who I am. And I wanted to have the feeling with me as much as possible. It is not easy, but it is possible. And, I now know that there is always a way to do the right things, and even when we are not perfect, God still loves us and wants the best for us. Being a Mormon is a challenge, but a challenge that brings happines to our lifes.

How I live my faith

At this moment I have a calling in my ward; I am a Primary teacher for the 6 year old kids. I love helping them to learn more about God and JesusChrist. In fact, I learn a lot by serving them and others. We participate in other service activities around our neighborhood. We meet with other families and share our feelings and I try everyday to teach my own kids what I learn at church everytime I attend. I like to live the gospel by doing what we learn.
