Hi I'm Gloria Toomey

I'm a Mormon. I live in Florida and spend all my time on genealogy, when I'm not at the beach.

About Me

I'm a mom and grandmother of two, am involved in church, civic, and social clubs in my community. I have spent most of my life working for non-profit groups and enjoy that feeling of giving back to the community while having fun and meeting interesting people. My husband and I are both retired and do a lot of traveling, have been to most of the world and most of the US, but still a few places left to visit. I love spending time at my computer doing family history and genealogy research and teach classes to beginners. Also love reading, cooking, and sewing, music. I love waking up every day and having lots of things to do.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized at the age of eight and have attended the LDS church for my entire life. My testimony is that my Heavenly Father loves me, has always loved me, and will welcome me to his presence when my life is over. He is my close friend, Savior and Redeemer, and I have tried to follow His teachings in spite of the trials and that have occurred in my life. I teach the Gospel Doctrine class in my Ward and love to study and prepare for my lesson each week, it teaches me so much and I hope my students learn something too. I know that I can always turn to my Savior when I need help and guidance and He will answer my prayers.

How I live my faith

I have served in many callings in my church and spent eight years as a Family History Consultant in the Family History Center in our Stake helping people with their genealogy. I have been a visiting teacher for 47 years and try to visit each of the sisters that I have been asked to serve each month. I have been a teacher in many classes for adults and children on Sundays over the years and love hearing the testimonies of the students as they participate in class. I have moved many times during my life and it is always so helpful to move to a new community and immediately find friends in the local branch or ward. Mormons are friendly and helpful and always eager to welcome new people to the church, the friends I have made in church are my "church family" since I have always lived thousands of miles away from my own family. Being involved in a Mormon church is a great way to feel a part of the community where you live even if it is only for a couple of years between moves.
