Hi I'm Rachel

I love nature, music and literature. I'm a mother of two. I enjoy cooking and shopping. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the North Carolina mountains and went to college at BYU. I've worked as an editor, page designer, and web content manager. Now I'm home full-time with my two beautiful young children, a girl and a boy. Keeping them fed, clean, and occupied keeps me as busy as any job, even without dishes and laundry! I'm married to a fun, caring, hard-working man I fell in love with in college. We like to watch movies and play outside with the kids.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in this Church and gained a testimony for myself as I approached adolescence and continued to make every effort to attend church and learn about the gospel. During my youth, the Holy Spirit confirmed the truth of countless lessons and talks to me. I felt like I was in the right place and knew what I was learning was true. As I obey the commandments and the counsel of prophets, I grow closer to my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. My knowledge of their plan for us lets me know that my life has a purpose and that I have divine potential to return to live with them and become like them. Understanding the gospel gives me comfort in hard times and strength to overcome challenges. I know the importance of the family; growing closer to my husband and teaching my children with love are the most important things I can do right now. For a while I was feeling lonely when I went away to college. I missed my family and friends from back home. I was also worried about my father, who had passed away, and whether he would accept the gospel again in the spirit world. One day I knelt in a quiet place and poured out my fears to my Father in Heaven, asking for comfort. I felt warm arms hugging me as my Heavenly Father let me know, through His Spirit, that He was there, that He loved me, and that everything would be ok.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by following the teachings of prophets and obeying commandments as well as I can. I keep my body pure and clean and teach my children to do the same. I try to avoid places, language and actions that might drive the Holy Spirit away. I make an effort to be friendly and helpful to those around me. I'm nowhere near perfect, but I try to follow Jesus Christ's perfect example. At church, for years I worked with the young women. I have served the children of my church through music, and I currently teach a small Sunday school class of children each week.
