Hi I'm Spencer Derr

I love learning, landscape design, and music, and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I sing loud, and I love playing the violin and piano! Plants are my forte, though. I am a college student, majoring in landscape design--I chose that major because I enjoy putting together a design that is dynamic and functions well. I also love to learn--especially from the scriptures--and I am sure that God wants us to learn, because learning about important things brings me joy and helps me become better. Learning how to properly care for my body is something else I enjoy, because it is something I have control over. I want to be healthy and strong, and as I've tried to take care of my body, I have seen the Lord blessing me in my life. I also enjoy helping others, because it helps me feel his love for me and for them.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a family that has always been active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have always had many questions about the things I've learned, but my parents and teachers expressed a knowledge that the Book of Mormon and the Bible are the word of God. They also knew and taught me that the Church is guided by living prophets and apostles. As I grew older, I read the Book of Mormon with my family and on my own. As I've asked the Lord in prayer if it is true, I've felt for myself, on multiple occasions, a peaceful feeling and an assurance that it is. Whenever I've felt overwhelmed, inadequate or insignificant, prayerfully searching the scriptures has restored feelings of strength and worth. Our loving Heavenly Father has reminded me that I am His son, and that He has not forgotten me. I know that God loves each of his children, and that he sent his Son to die for us--for each of us, individually--and I know that the Book of Mormon is true. This knowledge provides me with more peace and comfort than anything else. He lives and loves me.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by studying the word of God, and pushing forward each day to be a little better than the day before. I watch for opportunities to share what I know, and to serve others. These things bring me joy in my life! I do my best to follow the example of Jesus Christ. I serve the Lord by trying to keep his commandments, and by repenting when I make a mistake. I know that Heavenly Father loves all His children, and I hope to develop, through his help, the unconditional love that He has for us.
