Hi I'm Jonathan

I am a scientist, autistic, and a reclaimed soul through the atonement.

About Me

I was born with high-functioning autism. My parents fought really hard to get me the things I needed so I could flourish. I am now serving as a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Colorado Fort Collins Mission.

Why I am a Mormon

It all started when I was born into the church. I was born with High-Functioning Autism. I did not take the church really seriously. My testimony was not incredibly strong. I was often teased in grade school and life was really hard. Went to high school and did not hang out with the right crowd. God eventually pulled me out and I really gained a testimony It was that time I took my religion very seriously. Now I am on my mission and I am really having fun.

How I live my faith

I get to invite people to come closer to Christ. Every day I go out and serve the people in my area. I serve just like Jesus Christ does. I teach people about the teachings of Jesus Christ and I get to watch people change for the best. There is nothing like watching them come unto Christ and watch that light of Christ grow brighter and brighter. It is amazing.

What is done with the tithing that Mormons pay?

Jonathan
It goes to help with the church programs (Building Temples, Missionary Program, ect.) . Not one cent goes to the leaders of the church. This is because prophets were never paid. We have no paid clergy. Show more Show less

What is faith?

Jonathan
Faith to me is a principle of action. "It is hope for what is not seen, which is true." (Alma 32:21). The reason why I say it is a principle of action is because you have to act on that faith. Faith is like a seed. In order to keep this faith alive you have to put it in the right environment like good dirt and sunlight. (i.e surround yourself with good friends.) You also have to water that seed and keep watering it. (i.e. Read your scriptures, go to church, and follow the commandments.) Show more Show less

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Jonathan
It's a nickname from nonmembers because we believe that the Book of Mormon goes hand in hand with the Bible. Thus they call us Mormons after Mormon one the ancient prophets who compiled the many golden plates into one awesome Book we call the Book of Mormon. Show more Show less

What is the difference between attending church and the temple?

Jonathan
Church is a place for the public it is still dedicated like any other church site. What is done when you attend church is you learn and take the sacrament. The temple is quite literally house of the Lord. These are where you get many eternal ordinances. To enter the temple you have to be worthy to enter the house of the Lord. (i.e obey God's commandments.) Show more Show less

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

Jonathan
It is one of the first testaments of Christ. Although one of the main problems with the bible it has been corrupted over time. I mean the bible is one of the oldest books around some of these are translated from Greek to Latin to English this causes words to get lost in translation and some times these words are critical. Another way some parts were cut out is because some people would translate it to fit their beliefs like the King James Version which was translated to fit Protestant values, some bibles have been modernized so people would understand it better but this has also caused a loss in parts that are very important to. How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Jonathan
Pornography is evil and is against everything God stands for. It rips family asunder like paper and is fueled by the worlds lust for worldly pleasures. The best way to stop the influence of pornography is in the home. To teach our children that God will not tolerate such filth in the Kingdom of God and that they should never look at it. It is only then will pornography's influence wain and die. We must oppose it in the legislature of course but more importantly the battle should be fought at home. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about Jesus Christ? Do Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?

Jonathan
Absolutely we do. We believe he is literally the Son of God. He died for you and me. He suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane for you and me. He lived a unselfish life for you and me so we can be with him again. I will continuously praise him. What I feel for the savior is pure love. I love that man for through him I was redeemed from evil and set on the path of righteousness. Through him I know I can live with my family again. I know I can die peacefully knowing that I will be with my God and I will be able to rejoice and hug him and wet my tears of joy on his scars. Forever may he be praised. He died so I might live a life of a happiness. He died so I can find rest and peace. I love him more than anyone I cannot wait to see him again. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Jonathan
We believe that no one should be paid for church service. They may be reimbursed by the church for things like (gas and food for church sponsored events etc.) Not even our prophet is paid he is reimbursed for plane tickets and travel and he is provided security (because he has been threatened numerous of times) but that is pretty much it. He lives off his retirement money. This is the same with the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles they are retired and they live off that while doing the work of the lord. This meant to be a service to others. An opportunity of growth. Show more Show less

What is a ward/stake/branch?

Jonathan
A ward is a organized congregation that is near home. A ward is assigned a church. The church is where we partake of the sacrament, worship god, and learn about god. It is also to bring people together. Members of a ward are to lift each other up. For example I am in need of money for food. I am such a poor college student that is to far away from home and barely has money to feed myself. The relief society president and the bishop and elders quorum would meet with me and help me get what I need. If a local member of the ward needs help moving the ward helps with that. We lift each other up. Show more Show less

What is the Relief Society?

Jonathan
Relief Society is one of the oldest and largest organization of women in the world. They are just as intimately involved in hastening the work of the church as the men of the priesthood are but they play a different role. They help set up church welfare for poor families, visit people who are having problems. Show more Show less

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

Jonathan
The Book of Mormon was obtained by Joseph Smith at the Hill Cummorah. Joseph brought them to his house and translated them through the power of God. The Bible goes hand in hand with the Book of Mormon (along with every other books of God). We do not hold one higher the other. However over time the Bibles "plain and precious truths" were edited, warped, twisted, or taken out entirely. The Book of Mormon is un altered pure doctrine. Nothing has been warped, edits have only been made for clarity and (every edit has been documented), and nothing has been taken out. This provides a guide for people to navigate the bible.
