Hi I'm Nathan Ossowski
I have a wife and 2 young children. I love being a father and a husband. There is no higher calling than to raise and live in a family. I started law school fall 2011 and enjoy it immensely. It is quite fulfilling to learn how to serve others and learn about the American legal system. I am 32 years old and still feel like I am 18 sometimes. My hobbies include astronomy, politics, and reading. People often see me with my nose in a book (aside from law books) and my eyes up to the sky looking at the beauty of the universe. Before law school, I worked as a political consultant and worked to get good people elected. Working in this field is not conducive to what I want in a family life, so I am now changing to be a lawyer and to find ways to serve my community through the law.
Why I am a Mormon
I am a convert to the church. My mother was murdered when I was a teenager and that loss turned my thoughts to the afterlife and to faith. I experimented with many churches and found none to be uplifting to me or believable in my view. I never thought that I would even go to a Mormon church; not to mention that I'd be a member, but after awhile, a Mormon friend of mine invited me to her church. I could not deny such a lovely young woman and agreed to go. At church, meeting such friendly and respectful people, I agreed to meet with the missionaries. One missionary in particular (from Fiji) really spoke to me. He challenged me to read the Book of Mormon which I did and again challenged me to pray and use my feelings to know if it was true. Much to my amazement, I found it to be true and was Baptized. To put it plainly, I am a Mormon because I found what the church to be true. I found the teachings of Jesus Christ to be fully incorporated in the Mormon church and I found a home with the members. Jesus Christ is the center of the church and the plan of happiness I find to be nothing other than truth. I have a testimony of these things because God gave use the power of the Holy Ghost to confirm truth and drive away Satan.
Please explain the part prayer plays in your life?
Prayer brings the spirit of God into your life. I try to keep this spirit as much as I can, both for myself and for my family and prayer is the best way for this to be done. Prayer gives us answers, shows our gratitude for the blessings in our lives, and allows us to communicate directly with Heaven Father through Jesus Christ. Prayer allows us to find what is important in our lives and helps our progression through our lives.
How I live my faith
Most people have a job (or calling) at church. I am the Sunday School President which means I am in charge of the classes that happen after Sacrament Meeting and before Priesthood/Relief Society. I am responsible that the classes have teachers, books, appropriate space at church, and anything else that might come up. It is a very important calling because about 1/3 of the church meeting I am responsible for. I don't do it alone and without substantial help. Church leadership and councilors help me often. I hold the office of Elder at the church which means I have the higher of two priesthoods of Jesus Christ. With this calling, I have responsibility to teach members at their homes and to make sure that they have all they need in their home spiritually and that their secular needs are met as well. I, with my companion, bring lessons of Jesus Christ to their homes and teach them more about the Gospel. Also, I live my faith by being the leader in my home and utilizing my priesthood with my family. I attend the Temple as often as I can and honor my ancestors when I do. I live my faith by following the commandments of Heavenly Father and serving others around me.
