Hi I'm Drew VanWagoner

I'm a twin, all around nerd, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a twin. I am currently a missionary for the church. And also a bit of a nerd. I like to hike, water-ski, read, play video games etc. I am interested in becoming an engineer or architect, I love to build and design things. I am not currently enrolled in school but I'm planing to attend collage after my mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church. And this gave me a good foundation for my faith. But I have to know for myself, so the reason I am still a part of the church. and serving as a missionary is because I have prayed about the church and the Book of Mormon. Through prayer I was able to know that this is the church that contains the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and that this is the exact right place, life, and people, that I need.

How I live my faith

I strive to keep the commandments of the Lord, and live a Christ like life. I am also serving a two year mission trying to spread the gospel and serve the lord and his people.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Drew VanWagoner
many people attribute the prophet Joseph Smith with writing the Book of Mormon, but in actuality it was written by ancient prophets (men who where called of God and inspired to say or write certain things) on the American contents. as for what they wrote, the Book of Mormon testifies of Christ on almost literally every page, and like the old testament in the Holy Bible. contains many prophecies of Him Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Drew VanWagoner
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (aka Mormons) believe the Holy Bible to be the word of God. (see articles of faith) and we have a love for the Bible. Personally I have learned many great things from the Holy Bible, and have learned that it supports the teachings from the Book of Mormon and other inspired teachings. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Drew VanWagoner
As a missionary for the church, I've been asked this several (too many) times. And the answer is no. We do not, repeat DO NOT, worship Joseph Smith. The only person we ever have and ever will worship is the Lord Jesus Christ. as for why Joseph smith is so prominent in out faith, It is because he was the man that the Lord chose to restore the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. Joseph is a prophet deserving of respect, not deity deserving worship. Show more Show less

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Drew VanWagoner
The Church's official name is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints", we are called Mormons for a few reasons. One is that we believe in the Book of Mormon, which is a volume of holy scripture. also "Mormon" is much faster and easier to say than "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints". How can I know Mormonism is true?

Drew VanWagoner
As a missionary for the church The answer to this question is something that I try to help everyone around me understand. There are a few things that we can do to find out if "momonism", or anything else really, is true or not. 1. Learn about it... specifically our teachings and beliefs. you can do this through meeting with missionaries, and reading the information on sites like mormon.org and lds.org 2. Read the Book of Mormon... the Book of Mormon is the keystone to our religion. therefore to know if Mormonism is true you have to read the book. 3. Ask God if what you have learned is true... God will never lead you wrong, sincerely pray and ask him to answer your questions and then listen/ feel/ look for you answer. the Holy Ghost will tell you whats true through good, sweet, peaceful feelings. or impressions in your thoughts. 4. Act on what you learn... once you find out if its true, your job is not done. you need to follow the commandments and teachings of Christ you have learned. try it out. you will come closer to the Savior, to your family, and receive more of the blessings and fullness of the Gospel Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Drew VanWagoner
I would like to say we are Christian in every sense of the word. We worship, follow, and strive to be like Jesus Christ. He is the son of God, the Savior of the world, the only perfect man to walk the earth. he guides us personally and the church as a whole. We Know that Christ is the "only name by which we can be saved." so in short, yes we are Christians. Show more Show less

What is Mormonism? OR What do Mormons believe?

Drew VanWagoner
Simply put Mormons believe that God the father loves us and wants us to be happy, so he created this world for us and everything that goes into it, provided a way for us to learn though our choices and mistakes, because we make mistakes provided his Son as an ultimate and everlasting sacrifice, and that through following the example of that Son we may return to our Father in Heaven with all the joy we can possibly have. we know this because God has provided his gospel and still provides it though prophets. including ones on Earth today Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

Drew VanWagoner
The Book of Mormon states "Now is the time to prepare to meet God". Before we came to this Earth we were with God as spirits. He created a plan for us to grow and become more like him. we chose to come to earth to be tested. we are influenced by the world around us and our choices either bring us closer to God or away from Him. its up to us to decide. when we follow God we will make mistakes. That is why he sent his son Jesus Christ to make up what we can't do alone. Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Drew VanWagoner
Of course. All through history God has called prophets to lead and teach the inhabitants of the Earth, and he will always do so (see Amos 3:7). Men like Moses, Abraham, and Isaiah have all contributed to what we know about God and what God requires of us. And today there are men who are called of God with the same purpose. The first prophet in modern times was Joseph Smith. Today Thomas S. Monson is the Lord's prophet on the Earth. you can hear his words and see for yourself whether or not he is called of God. What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Drew VanWagoner
everything around me. from the vast expanse of the universe down to the particles that make up an atom. for example the human body is something that is incredibly complex in how it functions. all of these things are so organized and orderly. it shows that there has to be someone to design it all. I like the scripture in the Book of Mormon that states “All things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth... and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator" (Amla 30:44) Show more Show less
