Hi I'm Denell Tietjen

I was born into a family with a Catholic Mother and a Mormon Father. I'm a busy mother of 3, love playing tennis and I'm a mormon.

About Me

I was born into a family with a Catholic Mother and a Mormon Father. Growing up, my Sister, three brothers and I attended both churches. On Sundays we would go to Sunday School with our Father and then run home and go to Mass with our Mother. Then we would be back Sunday afternoon for Sacrament meeting. Wednesdays were primary and catechism was on Saturday mornings. It seemed like a tug-of-war. But as our testimonies grew, it was clearly evident which church we wanted to be baptized into. We made an unspoken pact with our father to help convert our mother to the gospel. It took 13 years for our mother to join the church and it has changed my life forever and I am eternally grateful.

Why I am a Mormon

It was a unique experience having a mother who was not a member of the church. I gained my own testimony as I knelt at the feet of those who taught my mother the gospel. There were many pairs of missionaries that came into our home to teach her. I was blessed with the opportunity to feel the Holy Ghost many times as a small child. I have always known the gospel was true. I love it with all my heart and am grateful for the blessing it is in my life each and every day.

How I live my faith

I have served in many callings in my ward. I have taught children from ages 2 all the way to 14. I have also been very involved with the Women's organization in our ward and have learned and grown in so many ways. Our ward has adopted a couple of charities that we assist on a regular basis. One is a battered women's shelter. We organization a "day to shine" each year for these women to attend and be pampered. We also have donated many hours to Union Gospel Mission where we bring food items, feed the homeless lunch and dessert each month. We've been doing this for 12 years straight.
