Hi I'm Laura!

I'm an MBA, Corporate Trainer, Adventurer and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I'm 38 years old. I've never been married and have spent my life being a "mom" to other people's kids. I'm a perpetual optimist often called "sunshine," who believes in making the most of each day. I spend a lot of time alone traveling for work. But that doesn't stop me from visiting Theme Parks, going to movies, out to eat or having any of a hundred other adventures. I don't believe in waiting to live until the circumstances are right. I try to experience each place I visit and make as many memories as I can. I create a Vision Board every year to inspire me to achieve my goals. I keep a daily journal full of all I'm grateful for. I know a lot of people envy the adventures I'm having from helicopter trips in Hawaii, to Broadway plays in New York, to visiting the French Quarter in New Orleans. And that's in just the last 9 months! Despite my experience and education I was recently out of work for 3 years. I lost/sold next to everything I owned but have come out of it a new woman, more grateful and at peace than I've ever been. I discovered all kinds of new talents I was too busy to take time for before: Painting, photography, cooking, gardening, writing. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the reason for determination, my hope and my joy.

Why I am a Mormon

This year I visited the Sacred Grove in Palmyra New York where God the Father and the Savior Jesus Christ appeared to the boy Joseph; an event often called: "The First Vision." I also visited Carthage Jail where Joseph and his brother Hyrum became martyrs for what they believed in. I stood in the room where they died. I saw the window thru which the prophet fell and a large bullet hole that still remains in the door. I wasn't sure how I would feel being in the actual places where such significant events took place. I felt one thing powerfully: I'm a Mormon because the Holy Ghost has spoken to my heart and soul with power, testifying to me that the vision young Joseph had really happened; that the Book of Mormon truly is another Testament of Jesus Christ and that the Savior's Church has truly been restored to the earth. Priesthood Authority has been restored which enables families to be together forever. I know Joseph saw what he said he saw not because I was in the Grove, but because God told me it really happened. I know that Jesus lived, died and lives again because the Holy Ghost burns inside of me with that truth. Jesus was no mere mortal man. He is the living Son of God. I'm a Mormon because this IS the restored Church of Jesus Christ! This is where we receive baptism, confirmation and other saving ordinances by proper authority. I'm a Mormon because of Apostles and Prophets that live today. I'm a Mormon because of Temples and Tithing and all the ordinances that bring us to God. At the end of the day I'm a Mormon because I know down deep in my soul that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is true. And even more than true, it's REAL! We lived before we came to earth. Our lives here have meaning and purpose. And what we do while here on earth really does matter to our Heavenly Father. The gospel of Jesus Christ helps me become better. It brings me joy! Real joy! The kind that endures forever.

How I live my faith

I start each day with scriptures & prayer. I don't leave for the day without talking to my Heavenly Father; asking for His guidance and protection throughout the day. And I love Him! Gotta tell Him! There are a hundred examples I could give, but the crux of it is, I strive to be like Jesus and to be God's hands every day in some way to bless others. Maybe its the M&Ms I left for the housekeeper at the hotel who was exhausted and sweaty at the end of a long shift, or the laundry detergent I left behind for whoever needed it at the laundromat. Maybe its being a listening to ear to someone having a hard day, choosing to patient, choosing to hold my tongue or choosing compassion. By consistently acting in Christ-like ways I find myself becoming truly Christ-like. I have a long way to go! But I'm a better person today than I was yesterday! I attend the temple wherever in the country I am on business. I attend church on Sunday. Even in a congregation where I don't know a soul I feel at home because the Holy Ghost is there. I listen to good music, only read good and uplifting books. I surround myself with good people, beautiful and inspiring quotations and art. I enjoy good music and cultural events. In short, I strive to make quality choices with how I spend my time and money and what kinds of influences I surround myself with. I tithe, support missionaries via monetary donations and/or letters. I make donations to the Perpetual Education Fund which provides micro-finance loans that help people in other countries rise out of poverty. I served a full-time mission in Southern Spain and Northern Morocco. I've served in all kinds of capacities from playing piano for the little kids in Primary to teaching Sunday School to being Assistant Camp Director for 12-18 year old Young Women. The Savior taught: Come follow me. I'm doing my best to follow in His footsteps and do what He would do if He was here. Through me, He can be here. That is my quest.
