Hi I'm Clark

I'm a banker. I'm an author. I'm a runner and a backpacker. I'm a husband, father and grandfather. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Salt Lake City, earned a degree in mathematics at Brigham Young University, then received an MBA from the Harvard Business School. I spent most of my career in commercial banking, starting with Citibank in New York City, and currently serve on the board of Utah's largest bank. I love history and recently authored a biography of Christopher Columbus. I love hiking and backpacking, and have hiked over 500 miles in the Grand Canyon. I have run three marathons and several half-marathons. But my greatest achievement in life - and my greatest joy - is being married to a wonderful woman for over four decades and raising six remarkable children who have blessed us with 19 grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a fifth generation Mormon. My paternal great-grandfather knew Joseph Smith; my maternal great-great-grandmother died while crossing the plains to Utah with the Martin Handcart Company in 1856. I was born of goodly parents who were committed to the Gospel, put God first in their life, and instilled in their children an enduring faith in Jesus Christ. I am a Mormon because over the years, my faith has increased, I have seen many miracles, and I have experienced how a foundation of faith and obedience leads to lasting happiness. I am a Mormon because I have a personal testimony of Jesus Christ and his gospel. I am a Mormon because I love my family, and the Gospel of Christ enables that family relationship to endure through all eternity.

How I live my faith

I love the opportunities for service which the Church provides. As a young man I served as a full-time missionary in Argentina and Bolivia. It was a life-changing experience where I witnessed remarkable miracles. Decades later I was asked to preside over the Church's mission in Barcelona, Spain. Serving in the Church has provided me with experiences virtually impossible to obtain in any other way - working with youth, helping families in trouble, caring for the poor, helping couples repair damaged marriages, and helping people experience miraculous changes in their life as they developed faith in Jesus Christ and his Atonement. Quite simply, the best experiences in my life have all come through being a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
