Hi I'm Tanja

I grew up in Utah. I am a dancer, a nurse, and a mother, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I feel as though I have had a very normal life. I met my husband my first year of college. We were married and lived in a not so grand apartment. We both worked and went to school. I had my first baby one week before my last year in nursing school. I don't know how we survived, but I have no doubt the Lord helped us. We have been through undergraduate school, graduate school, many jobs, living in salt lake city, Portland, Boise, had four children and that rings us to who we are now. There have been many bright spots in our lives. Our children of course are our most treasured gifts. Three girls and one boy. They sure keep us busy. I have had opportunities to dance for a company, work with children, and read many books. I always tell my husband that the prophet said we should read every good book. So I read a lot.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church as people say. We have a pioneer ancestry in the church. My parents were active members and I have chosen to be active. But, I am not active because of these things. I have had many sweet experiences when the Holy Ghost has touched my life, especially when learning about my Savior. When I have had my darkest days, I go to my knees and always the Lord sends tender mercies to me. I have read the Book of Mormon many times and have been filled with the spirit testifying to me that it is true. I have been to the temple and performed work for the dead and have felt the presence of my ancestors there. I can think of no greater hope and comfort than an eternal family. I am a better person because of the church in my life, but more importantly I have a better purpose in my life. I know that the Lord is the creator of the Earth and everything in it. I know the Savior lived and died for each of us. I know we can repent and that He will always be waiting for us. I know we have prophets on the earth today. I know the Book of Mormon is true because I have read it. I know the savior will come again and how great shall be that day.

How I live my faith

I have been a visiting teacher for 13 years. That really isn't very long considering we are always visiting teachers. I have found my closest friends through visiting teaching. Sometimes my husband wonders why it takes me 2 hours to visit two women. But I love them. Most recently, I visit a lady 40 years my elder. What a blessing to get to know her and how different our worlds are and also how similar they are. I want to be her when I grow up. My most common calling in the church is to work with the children. I love their sweet faith. They just see things black and white. I have taught them music, when I have no gift for music, I have taught them in classes, I have taught every age group. That is one of the greatest blessings of serving in the church, you gain skills you never would have.
