Hi I'm Josh

I'm from Phoenix, Arizona. I joined the U.S. Navy after college and am now stationed in South Carolina. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in raised near Phoenix Arizona. I studied Engineering in college. While I was there studying one day Navy recruiters were giving a presentation about the navy's nuclear program and provided free pizza for anyone that attended. The free pizza was all it took to get me there and a few months later I committed to the Navy. After graduating college I got stationed in Charleston, SC. After being here for about 2 years I met my best friend and we've been married now for 7 months. I've always loved playing sports and being outdoors. I play in a work basketball league, my wife and I play tennis together and go mountain biking. Charleston is the perfect place for outdoors. While here I've taken up running after not running much since cross country in High School. Last year I ran my first half marathon. I am the fifth of nine kids. My brothers and sister are all very different from each other but we're all very close. I enjoy my trips back home to see them and joking about our fun memories growing up together.

Why I am a Mormon

I am grateful for my parents for teaching me the gospel. Being one of nine kids we didn't have a lot of fancy things or go on nice vacations but they had Family Home Evening every Monday night. We would start and end with a hymn and a prayer and my mom would usually prepare a lesson on a gospel topic, have a fun game and make a treat. A lot of times one of my younger sisters taking piano lessons would play the piano even though my older sister could play it much better. This annoyed me when I was a kid and I would complain but they were always proud of themselves after finishing the song. I don't know how they did it each week but we would complain and make it difficult sometimes but each week no matter what we had it again. Looking back that is where I really learned and gained a testimony of the the church. I'm a mormon because the church has brought me closer to my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I've tried to do things on my own thinking I know best but I've realized life goes much better when you include the Lord. I know God hears and answers our prayers. He will never stop loving us and is always there to help us out.

How I live my faith

I tend to get busy with work and school and it gets easy for me to sometimes forget the things that are most important. Prayer and good music help me with this. My sister sent me a CD with songs about the Savior on it after moving to SC. When I get home I turn it on and listen to church music while I'm doing things around the house. This helps me think about the Savior each day. The other is prayer. Prayer has been a huge source of strength but I still go through times when life is going good and I start forgetting to pray. One day I got frustrated for forgetting to pray again that I wrote on a lined piece of paper PRAY and taped it to my bedroom door. This has helped me to start the day with a prayer.
