Hi I'm Sister Summer Flannery

I am a reader. I am an LDS missionary. I am an oboe player. I am studying dietetics. And Im a mormon.

About Me

The first thing that you would probably notice about me is my laugh, and for several reasons. Not only is it that ridiculous type that causes one to throw their head back and their shoulders to quake (just like how they describe in books) but I absolutely love to just enjoy life to the fullest. I have had a great time growing up in an amazing family of five, with me being the only daughter. I was studing dietetics at my local university before I decided to go on a mission for 18 months. I was blessed with amazing friends, which I can bake with, watch disney movies with and just generally have a great time with. Since I was little, I have absolutely loved teen books, and have never really gotten over the obsession. Give me Harry Potter or Fablehaven any day and I will be a happy camper. I enjoy filling my time with crafts (my grandma just taught me how to crochet) and always spend hours working on one thing or another. I have a love for playing the piano and oboe, and for taking hikes with my dog, though I don't do those as often as Id like to do. I live for serving others and for making new friends, especially if I can somehow help the other person. I am currently serving a mission in my church, and have been put in the Virginia Richmond Mission as I wait for my visa to go to the Brazil, Sao Paulo South mission, which I was originally called to.

Why I am a Mormon

There are three main reasons why I am a Mormon. The first is quite simplistic. I love my family. And in this church, I can be with them forever through sacred Temple covenants and living richeously. I am a Mormon so I can stay with my family for all of eternity. The second reason why I am a Mormon is because of the Churches view on work and service. I am a firm believer that true faith leads to action. I would not feel content to just sit in a congregation and profess my beliefs. And in this Church, it is almost impossible to do that. Magnifying callings and sustaining the other members of the Church leads to immediate action. The last, but most important reason why I am a Mormon is because of the feeling of home that comes with the Spirit of the Church. I can literally feel the love my Savior and my Heavenly Father has for me as I sit in my church meetings, as I read the Book of Mormon, Bible and the other scriptures, as I listen the what the Prophet and Apostles are saying, and as I do what is asked of me. It is a sacred feeling of peace and belonging that is beyond any description that I could possibly muster. And that is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

As a student and a friend to many people outside of the church, I found that the best way to live my faith is to be the best example I could be. There are times that I just have to say no to activities (such as a drink of coffe, going to a party where I know there will be alcohol present, or just not participating in conversations that get a bit premiscuous) that would otherwise seem as just a normal part of life. But I have seen that as I live this way, it influences others and strikes questions from others that would have been otherwise not really interested before. Along with that, I seek out opprotunities to share the gospel, participate in church activities and read and ponder my scriptures. Currently, I am serving a full time mission for my church, devoting all my time and attention to spreading the good word of God. It has been the best, and yet hardest, experience of my life.
