Hi I'm Bruce

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a historian, teach high-school and university courses. I am a father of three and love to be with my family. I enjoy learning and teaching others about what I know.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the church when I was a teenager. I always had questions that my pastor couldn't answer - except with "its a mystery and we can't know it." The Trinity was the biggest one for me. When I asked the Mormon missionaries why Jesus prayed to himself if he and the father were one, they looked at each other, then one looked at me and said "he didn't pray to himself, he prayed to his father. He and the father are one in purpose, not one in form. He is called the "son" for a reason." When I heard their answer, I knew what they told me was correct. I guess I had always known that, but when they taught me, the Lord let me know through the Holy Spirit that it was true. I have been a member of the Church and have been learning ever since. I have had MANY more experiences just like that first one. I am a scholar and a general skeptic. The true gospel of Jesus Christ always gives us the right answers and everything about the gospel and plan that God has for us is logical. The more I learn about science, history, the world, and the universe, the more I understand why it all works together with the plan God has for all of us.

How I live my faith

I can hardly express in words what knowing about the truth about God and his plan has done for my life and my lifestyle. I have no questions about life - I know why I am here, I know where I am going when I die, I know what the purpose of life is. What a reassuring feeling it is when we live in a world that can be so confusing if you don't have any answers. I know why I should do what the commandments tell me. I know they are not for restriction, but for liberation. I have experienced the joy that comes with the knowledge that I will be with my family forever, not just till death do us part. The true message of God and his Plan of Salvation is nothing short of amazing.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Bruce
We believe the Bible to be the word of God. What could be greater than reading the words of the Savior as recorded by his apostles, or reading the words, truths, and adventures of the ancient prophets? We can gain a great understanding of the plan our Heavenly Father has for us and of the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for us by reading the pages of the Bible. The Bible contains the greatest of all truths, that Jesus Christ took upon himself the sins of the world - that includes my sins - so that I may be forgiven and return to live with my Father in the next life.
