Hi I'm Jamin L. Burton

I am a music teacher in Alaska. I love the outdoors and I love working with young people. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband, a father, a music teacher, and a student. I love my wife and children. I love helping my students express themselves and be creative through music. Music is a language that we can all understand and relate to. It helps us to communicate and share with each other. It helps to connect all of us as a human family. I am also a full time student working on a doctoral degree in education. I feel like i have been in school forever, but I love to learn and understand new things. I also love that school has helped me recognize and understand the perspective of other people. I love experiencing new things and exploring the outdoors. The majesty of the wilderness is awe inspiring. Whether being out on the ocean, hiking in the mountains, or laying in the yard staring at the stars, the beauty of the world testifies to me that there is a loving creator.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family that belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. While growing up, I had several experiences that testified to me that we have a loving Heavenly Father. I learned about the Savior and his sacrifice for us. I was inspired by the stories in the scriptures about prophets who prayed and received revelation from God. I knew that if these stories were true, Heavenly Father would answer my prayers. I prayed to know that God existed and that he loved me. I received an answer that He is real and that He loves me. I prayed to know if Jesus Christ was his son and the Savior. Again, I received an answer. I prayed to know if Joseph Smith was a prophet and if the teaching of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are true. The Holy Ghost testified of these truths to me. I prayed and asked if the Bible and the Book of Mormon contained his words and came to know that they are true. I decided to serve a mission for the church. Missionaries ask others to seek out truth, study, read, and pray. I felt that I couldn't ask others to do that unless I was willing to do the same thing. I read books from other faiths and studied what I could find of their teachings. I prayed to know if these were true and I received an answer that they contained truths but did not teach the fullness of the Gospel. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the restored Church of Jesus Christ. It is the only church with a Prophet and 12 Apostles. It is the only church with the Priesthood of God. It is the only church which continues to receive revelation for our days. The Lord has promised that if we seek wisdom through study and prayer, it will be given unto us. I have prayed and asked. I opened my heart to the possibility that these things are true and committed myself to follow and live accordingly if I received an answer. I have heard the voice of the Lord in answer to my prayers. This is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I do my best to live my faith in all of my actions. I love my wife and children. I try to express that love frequently. I do my best to provide for their safety and material needs. I try to act with integrity in all of my actions. While I am admittedly imperfect, I try to act in ways that are in harmony with the gospel of Jesus Christ. I try to follow through with my commitments, work hard, serve others, and donate my time and money to helping others. I try to live my life so that others will not be surprised that I am a Christian. I try to be a missionary and share my testimony with other people. I have recently begun to share more about my faith using the internet and social media. I have been asked to serve as a mission leader in our community and I work with the church's full time missionaries to coordinate service and teaching efforts for those who live in our community. As a teacher I have the opportunity to work with several young people in the community. I try to teach them to act with integrity, make positive choices, and serve others. I try to provide a positive role model of commitment, work ethic, trustworthiness, and hopefulness that will inspire them to make good decisions.
