Hi I'm Christine Duncan

I'm a Mormon. I enjoy movies, books, and spending time with my sons. I teach at an elementary school.

About Me

I've been teaching school now for over 25 years and still enjoy going to work everyday.I chose to teach because I have always felt happiest when helping kids learn. Kids are where the real action is! They can teach us so much. I come from a family of 3 brothers and 5 sisters. I lost my 27 year old brother to an automobile accident several years ago and went through a divorce to escape abuse. It was only because of my faith that I was able to endure those times. I love spending time with my sons , my friends and my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I chose to be baptized at age 8 because that's what I had been taught as a child. I don't remember details now that I'm older but I'll always remember the peaceful feeling I had because I knew I was choosing a righteous thing. I hear people say they do things at church because they "have to". When I was a youth I felt that way sometimes- like church was just a bunch of rules. We have agency from the Lord so we don't have to do anything we don't want to do. I can testify that when you choose to do things dealing with church - your life and attitude will change. You can't be neutral. Remember the scripture in Joshua 24:15 Choose who you will serve. Make up your mind to follow Christ and do it! Make it a habit.Live it and love it!

How I live my faith

I love working with the kids at church and hearing them sing songs of praise to God. Their spirituality grows so much when they go to meetings each Sunday. I enjoy reading scripture with my sons in the mornings before school, praying with them twice a day (on a good day) - sometimes we only get to pray once, and having Monday night set aside for family time. Sometimes we watch a Bible video or have a lesson on repentance or something but other times we go bowling or do Scouting projects. I especially enjoy going to the Temple where its peaceful and energizing. It allows me to feel safe and guided through the chaos of this world. Every week at church meetings I get to take the bread/water to renew my promises with God. I mostly try to live my faith by example. I write in a diary or read scripture in front of my sons and talk to them so that they know what I find truly important. Sometimes they call me 'army sergeant" because of my high expectations for myself and them. I want them to know that they are also a child of God and that they can turn to him for comfort and guidance - the same as I do. I always try to leave religious communication lines open at work so that my colleagues feel comfortable talking to me about my beliefs and let them better explain theirs. I am assigned a few ladies from the church to check on often. It's this visiting teaching that allows me to focus service on a few instead of the entire community at once. I'm not as great at it as I want to be. Peoples lives get so busy and its difficult to find open times in either person's schedule. I've had some ask me, " Where would you be without the church?" I tell them I have no idea, I couldn't live without God in my life.
