Hi I'm Richard Hawkins

I grew up on a small farm near Swindon, Wiltshire, went to college in Newbury, Berkshire. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up on my families farm in West Grafton near Swindon in Wiltshire, i attended Burbage Primary School, Pewsey Vale School and Newbury College. Most of my post college life i have spent my time in Newbury with old friends from college. I enjoy card games, role play games, Xbox 360 and PC gaming. I collect swords and spend a lot of my time watching movies, socialising on Second Life and questing on World of Warcraft. I was baptised about 6 years ago became inactive and Febuary 2012 started attending Church again after my records were moved for Newbury branch back to my home stake of Swindon. I am epileptic and therefore cannot drive which prevents me for doing a lot of things because of my rural address. I am a rather shy and reserved person who does not tend to get on with getting to know people at first, which is something i am working to overcome.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always had a belief in Jesus and for several years attended a Church close to where I live, however I could never understand their attitude toward certain issues. That a loving and merciful God would condemn those who never heard the gospel or small children because they all should simply have known how to be saved. I went on the Alpha course and still could not find an answer to by issue, in fact more things started to add on. Then one day after having gone clubbing with a friend of mine I spoke to his father the next day and he shared his testimony of the Gospel, I then organised to spend time with the missionaries. A few months later I was baptised, however I found church difficult due to being shy. I became inactive after a few years and my records were sent to the stake close to my family home. There I was contacted and have started to attend church again but in Swindon. In my time in the church I found my answers and a way to help my shyness and I look forward to the future.

How I live my faith

In my present ward of Swindon I am presently an Usher, my duty is to look after people during Sacrament, to make sure they have a place to sit, a hymn book and quiet reverent atmosphere. Its a good calling and I get to help lots of people in such a simple and natural way. I also am able to go home teaching to a group of 3 families once a month which allows me to make sure they are well. I try to read my scriptures each day and pray often and have recently arranged transport to attend some more social activities which should help with my shyness.
