Hi I'm Cathy Jo

I'm a young widow, I'm an adventurer and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was raised on a farm in Idaho, the middle child of five siblings in a gospel centered home. I couldn't wait to get out on my own. I married an amazing man who was a United States Marine. After he returned home from the Iraq war he became a police officer. This was so that we could focus on starting and raising a family of our own. Two years into his new career he was killed by a hit and run driver. I loved a man who had spent his life serving his country and his state and now ultimately gave his life in that service. My life had been turned upside down overnight, I had lost everything that mattered most. I began to question all that I believed in. With time I have found the answers I need to carry on in faith. Every year to mark the day of his death I climb a mountain, something him and I would do together. I found a way to let go of all of my fears and even though I'm terrified of water and could not swim, I found the courage to learn how to SCUBA dive. What I’ve learned is that life is short, and life is not in our control. What we can control is what we choose to do with it. I choose to live it to the fullest, to enjoy every moment that God gives to me and learn and grow from every experience. I love to travel, dive the oceans and ski or hike in the mountains. Right now I'm studying to be a registered nurse. All that I can accomplish in this life is preparing me for the next. I'm a widow, I'm an adventurer and I'm a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I believe that the only true peace and happiness comes from living the gospel. Our Savior Jesus Christ promised that we could always have his spirit to be with us if we keep his commandments. I need his spirit with me, I know I cannot live this life without him. He gives me hope and strength that I need everyday. I know that if I do my best to live as he has asked me to that I will be able to be with my family forever. The loss that I have felt, the pain that I have experienced and the darkness I have gone through, he has been through it too. He understands better than anyone else can and if I trust in him he will light the way for me, ease my burdens, and will fill my heart with joy. I am so blessed to have the Gospel in my life.

How I live my faith

I attend church services every Sunday. I love the people that I get to see each week and hear the lessons that they have prepared as we learn more about the gospel from each other. I look forward to the weekly lessons I get to prepare for the young children. Teaching them about the Gospel of Jesus Christ helps me to learn more about him myself. I love reading the scriptures and learning about Christ's teachings and how his people lived and strived to follow his commandments too. I always say a prayer each night and talk with my Heavenly Father about things that may be troubling me and hopes that I have and how grateful I am to him for the life I have. I feel his love and I know he listens as I am comforted at the end of every day.
