Hi I'm Katie

I am passionate about the environment. I am a full-time college student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Currently, I am a junior in college, majoring in Watershed and Earth Systems. I am working on an undergraduate research project about arctic zooplankton (nerdy!) Because of this project, I get to spend my summers in arctic Alaska. I am the second oldest girl in a family of eight (including mom and dad). I have an inordinate love for movies, music, art, and books. I love my major and am a little obsessed with water quality issues and the environment in general. After grad school, I want to work for a government consulting agency as a watershed hydrologist.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into an active, Latter-Day-Saint family. I have always loved the teachings of the gospel and have seen how much it blesses the lives of my family and friends. I have gained a personal testimony of Jesus Christ and His teachings from striving to live a Christ-like life as I moved away from home and into college life. I have learned how much I can do with divine guidance and strength. Most importantly, I have come to realize that people are of the utmost importance to God because of his infinite love and knowledge of them. I want to be able to emulate that example of how to love and respect people as God does.

How I live my faith

I am in a church ward that consists of all single college students. My current calling is as a Relief Society President. In this calling, I am responsible for leading and caring for the spiritual and temporal needs of all of the girls in the ward. I work closely with the Bishop (leader of the ward) to organize callings for each girl and make sure that each girl knows that she is loved. If any young lady in the ward is ever in need of service, a listening ear, a shoulder to lean on, or words of encouragement, I try to ensure that those needs are met, whether I meet them personally or find another girl to do it. I absolutely love this calling! There is nothing better than growing close to a group of college girls. It is kind of like a sorority, but with a spiritual purpose. I am making lifelong friendships.
