Hi I'm Andy

I grew up all over the US. I served a mission in Guatemala. I'm a computer scientist, an outdoorsman, and a goof. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the third of four kids. Because I never lived in one state for more than a few years, my youngest brother and I became closest friends, and I've watched out for him ever since. I am now enrolled to finish my university degree in computer science, and I'm starting a software business while I'm at it. When I can get away from the computer, I love to head up to the mountains to climb, cave, hike, camp, swim, shoot photos, and just soak in the scenery. I served a two-year mission in Guatemala. They were the most challenging and most rewarding two years of my life up to this point. I love my family to death, and I'm on a quest to start my own family (once I can find the right girl)!

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in this church. When I began to become personally convinced that is was true instead of just believing my parents was when I began reading the Book of Mormon on my own at 16 years old. I read it from cover and cover, and without even realizing it, I found out that it was true. From that time onward I began making an earnest effort to be faithful in the church. I stumbled a few times along the way, but I got help from my parents and other good friends and leaders, and I was ready and worthy when it was time to serve a mission. I set out thinking it would be easy. Boy, was I wrong! I struggled with feeling inadequate and useless. I was making my best effort to serve God, but I saw no change in the world around me. I fought with feelings of failure for one and a half years until a small miracle happened in my life and God put me with two wonderful friends who helped me know how much He cared about me and how pleased He was with my efforts to serve Him. I became converted all over again and started a real, personal relationship with God that I had never felt before. Now that I know God and Jesus Christ better, I have found peace and help that make my life wonderful, even when there are problems!

How I live my faith

My three siblings each are struggling: one with health problems, one with divorce, and one with depression. When they're feeling down, I take time away from my start-up business to talk with them and encourage them. In the church, I take advantage of my flexible schedule to serve and help in any way that I can. Sometimes it's setting up chairs, sometimes it's singing in a choir, sometimes it's helping another member of the church around their house, but there's always something I can do. I also speak about my experiences and my personal change during my mission and I encourage other young men to serve a mission. Once I get back to my home-away-from-home at college, I hope to be given a more permanent assignment in addition to the simple things I can do right now!
