Hi I'm Janet

I'm a Mormon. I'm a native Oregonian, and I love the summers in the Northwest.

About Me

I'm a fun loving grandma who loves to spend time with my family. I like to read and write about history and research my roots. I love the outdoors with its many pleasures of gardening, biking, hiking, fishing, camping, etc. Oh, yes, and cooking is at the top of my fun to do list as well. Animal husbandry has been a big part of my life, too. I enjoy sports though mostly just watching them.

Why I am a Mormon

As a young child, my parents didn't attend any church, but they allowed me to go to whichever one I chose to. So, I attended numerous faiths enjoying learning about Christ. One day, two missionaries knocked at our door. We listened together as a family to what they had to say. They asked if we would pray about what they were teaching us. I did so. After a few weeks, we were invited to be baptized. I chose to do so as it felt right. As I look back, I have grown to appreciate more than ever that choice. It has made all the difference in my life. I have a greater knowledge of who I am, where I came from, and where I will go after this life ends. I have learned that I am a spirit daughter of a loving Father in Heaven who knows me personally and cares about me. I have learned that Jesus Christ was Heavenly Father's firstborn son, and that he volunteered to come and take upon himself the sins of all mankind who are his brothers and sisters to atone for them so that we could all be resurrected. It is by Christ's grace that this free will offering is given. I believe the scriptures to be true and believe the words of the prophets. Proverbs 7:1-7 teaches us to keep God's commandments and happily obey His laws. Studying the scriptures blesses us with greater wisdom and understanding. Who doesn't want that! I, also, believe that we need prophets today to guide us just as much as in the time of Christ. It gives me great comfort knowing that we are lead by a prophet of God who doesn't bend with the wind of time or the social pressures of the day. I believe that families who love one another want to be together even after they die, and I realize those great blessings are available in God's holy temples today.

How I live my faith

I spend time visiting and sharing gospel messages frequently with friends. I have enjoyed being a den mother and working with the scouting programs which I feel are great character builders for our young men. I have been a camp counselor for young girls as well. I have taught children as well as adult Sunday School classes which strengthen both the giver and the receiver. One of my favorite things is doing family history and helping others with theirs. I feel it part of my civic duty to participate in our political system to preserve sound leadership in government. I have headed up Red Cross Blood drives, and charitable fundraisers, attend dances at church and local community soccer and other sports games. I believe God intends for his children to enjoy life and share the blessings of this beautiful world with others.
