Hi I'm maren.

I'm a teacher, lover of music, art, design, and family. I live in Iowa, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. I attended Utah State and got an English-teaching degree. I now teach at a community college in Iowa and enjoy correcting people's grammar in my head. I love my husband and children. I love being outdoors: hiking, biking, and skiing. I love shopping and design. I like to try new things and always have my eye out for a good deal. I'm outrageously afraid of natural disasters. I love Halloween.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised Mormon. But that's not why I'm a Mormon. Mormon culture and Mormon doctrine often seem a bit unrelated to me. I'm a Mormon because I've prayed and read and put the promise in James to the test. Heavenly Father has blessed me with a solid assurance that this is the same church established by Jesus Christ in His time. I love my family and friends who are Mormon, and would be forever enchanted by the culture they live in even if I didn't believe any of it; but the truth is it's real. I've felt it time and time again. It brings peace in my darkest hours. My prayers have been repeatedly answered, and I've received comfort that can only come through the Holy Ghost. Some say Mormons are so restricted by commandments--but the truth is--it's freeing. When I follow the example of the Savior, when I listen to the prophets, I find myself freed from worldly cares and addictions. I'm freed to care for my mind and body and soul with truths that nourish and help it grow. By following true doctrine, I am freed to love every living soul on the earth as He did-- without restriction and without judgement. I know my Savior lives and loves me. I know there is a God in Heaven who watches over me. I pray that others may come to know the joy of knowing as well.

How I live my faith

I'm in the Primary presidency in my ward, and teaching the children is the best calling I've ever had. I love children and their sweet innocent spirits.
