Hi I'm Sara Deeks

I am a University student in Toronto, Canada. I have a dream to make a difference in the world. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am an average university student, who struggles with homework and tuition fees like every other student. I love music! I can play the flute and love to sing when ever possible! I want to work with children or youth when I'm finished school. I enjoy writing, and would like to write books in my spare time. I also look forward to one day getting married and raising a family! I have a dream to make a difference in the world, in what ever way I can, and hope to be able to help as many people as possible through out my life, even if its through smiling at them. My life may not be extremely exciting, but I love it and can't wait to make my mark on the world!

Why I am a Mormon

When I was three years old, my mother joined the Church, but my father did not. I grew up attending church and learning the gospel, but as I got older, I was given the choice whether or not I would continue in the principles I had learned. I have wonderfully supportive parents, who allowed me to make my own decisions, which I am so grateful for. I had to find out for myself if this church was true, and right for me. As I became a teenager, my knowledge and understanding increased and I realized the amazing amount of happiness and peace that comes from this wonderful gospel. I have continued to grow, and I have come to rely on the relationship with my Father in Heaven for strength and guidance. I have come to know and experience that He does answer prayers, and if we walk in His way, we can be happy. I know that Jesus Christ is my Saviour! I know that only through Him can we return to live with Him again. I know that through the prayer of a fourteen year old boy, the fullness of the ever-lasting gospel was restored to the earth. That the power of God is here again, and that His church is lead by a Prophet, just like in times of old. I know that our Prophet receives direct revelation to guide the members of this church. I also know that we do not have to simply rely on the words of others, but that we can go to our Heavenly Father and receive answers and guidance for ourselves. I know that He loves each and every one of His children so much and that he is always ready to help us, if we humble ourselves and obey His commandments. I know that families can be together forever, and that that is the central unit of the Lord's plan for us. This gospel is like a fire within me, and I become so excited and invigorated by each principal that I learn! I know that it is true, because I have found out for myself and felt the Spirit testify to me. It is true! I cannot deny that! Any person can feel the same thing, if they sincerely seek for it.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving in the church in any way I can. I am still young and learning, but I have been given opportunities to teach both the youth and adults. It is such a learning experience for me! I have been given multiple opportunities to give workshops and multi-media presentations at youth conferences about the importance of living our standards. It may seem to many people, probably to most of my friends, that there are a lot of rules in this church. But I know that they are not rules, but rather standards. I know that by living according to them will bring us such happiness and blessings. I try to stay strong in all the I do. I make a point to dress modestly and be virtuous in all that I do. I know that I do not fit in with many people at my school, but I feel so happy to know what I know, that I don't care! I want to show the world how much I love this gospel and serve others how ever I can!

How are modesty and chastity related? How can parents teach their children to be modest in dress, language and behavior?

Sara Deeks
Modesty in our dress and appearance, as well in our language and behaviour is so important, especially living in a day in age where such practices are considered old-fashioned. The way we dress and act is how we tell the world who we are and what we value. Modesty in dress demonstrates that we understand how precious our bodies are and the role it plays in our Heavenly Father's plan. We believe in being chaste; that sexual relations are sacred, and should only be between a man and women who are married. When we dress in a way that is not revealing, we do not tempt those around us, or send the wrong message. We understand the power that our bodies have and respect others and ourselves by covering up. I think that if a person understands how much they are worth to their Father in Heaven, that they can come to an understanding of why the way they portray themselves to the world is so important. Dressing modestly sends the message: I know I am a child of God! I think that parents can teach their children about modesty by setting an example and teaching from a young age how special their body is. Show more Show less
