Hi I'm Jacob

I'm a college student, I love music, I love getting out and exploring the outdoors, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 24 years old and getting started on my last year at college. I'm going to finish up my degree in Global Supply Chain Management and hopefully get started on an exciting career in that field once I graduate. I love music (listening to it, performing it, and occasionally composing it), getting outdoors (through mountain biking, hiking, canyoneering, skiing, etc.), and Chinese and Asian culture. I'm planning to travel to China after I graduate and hopefully build a career that gives me the chance to work with such a great group of people.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised a Mormon, but I had some experiences a few years ago that helped me make the personal decision to be an active member of this church. I served a two-year mission to New Zealand. I learned a lot about myself during that time, particularly about my own weaknesses. My mission was difficult, filled with long hours trying to contact people and share a gospel message with them, only to be rejected, yelled at, or ignored. It was such a tiring experience that at one point I was ready to give up. Through this experience, I realized that life is full of challenges, big and small, and that trying to tackle these challenges myself would be impossible. I knew I needed help to find the opportunity and growth that could come from confronting and overcoming these challenges. As I began to focus more on Jesus Christ and follow his teachings more closely in my life I felt the difference. I felt stronger, was more filled with faith, and felt his forgiveness for my mistakes. I felt that I truly started to change into a better person and make progress in my life that had been out of my reach before. I know now that Jesus Christ is our savior and has the ability to make us into more than what we can become ourselves. He will bless you in ways you can't yet perceive if you learn to trust him and follow his teachings.

How I live my faith

I'm currently a clerk for the local congregation of the church. I am in charge of making sure member records are transferred so others can be more integrated into the congregation and its activities. I'm also a home teacher and have the chance to visit other members of the congregation, get to know them, and provide service to them if they need it. I go to church meetings every week, and try to worship through attending my church's temples, many of which are located close to where I live, about once a month.

What are Mormon Temples used for?

Jacob
As a part of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we have the opportunity to make sacred covenants with God. A covenant is simply when we promise to obey god and keep his commandments and God in return promises to bless us. The reward to our faithfulness to our covenants is exaltation is the Celestial Kingdom; to live with God and our families forever and to receive all that God has. Temples are sacred houses of God where we go to make these sacred covenants for ourselves and by proxy for our deceased ancestors. They are a place where we learn more of God's plan for us, and have the chance to feel and experience what heaven and a life in the presence of God would feel like. Show more Show less

What is faith?

Jacob
There are a lot of ways to describe faith. Some describe it simply as a belief while others say it is a driving force that changes the way we live our lives. The most meaningful description of faith I have ever heard is that faith is trust. Faith is most beneficial to us when we place it in our savior, Jesus Christ. When I tell people I have faith in Jesus Christ, I mean that I have trust in Jesus Christ. I don't know the why behind all of his teachings, but I trust that they are borne out of the love he has for us. I trust that if I follow these teachings, even if I don't fully understand them, they will help me live a happier, more successful life. When looking at faith in this light, it is easy to see that it's more than just a blind belief in some abstract concept. As we exercise faith or trust in Jesus Christ by following his teachings, we are rewarded with blessings of joy, prosperity, health, etc. As we exercise faith, it will be confirmed and strengthened, which will lead to more power and blessings in our lives.
