Hi I'm Tonya

I am a mother, an artist, a writer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

First off, I am a mother. This is my most important role. It's my messiest role also! Being an artist is a close runner up. Creative people get crazy right?! I don't feel that I'm really that spectacular, but it's something I love and feel that I can understand. I've written a couple books - narrative nonfiction and chidrens. Neither is published yet, but I'm working on that. My degree is in Secondary English Eduction. I love to read - don't love to correct papers. I'm inspired by the ocean and diverse world cultures.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I can say that the gospel provided a wonderful foundation for our family to build upon. As a young child, I remember much harmony in our home. I believe this harmony stemmed from our knowledge of where we come from, where we are going and what our purpose is on earth. I grew up knowing I have a Heavenly Father who knows me better than anyone on earth. I can communicate with Him through prayer on a daily basis. I have had experiences where my prayers have recieved direct answers. Other times, I've learned to simply rely on His greater knowledge. With the Lord on my side, things turn out right. I believe in the truth of the Book of Mormon as another testament of Jesus Christ. I believe Christ visited the American continent as a resurrected being, and that He shared the same saving truths He taught in the old world. Jesus was sent to atone for our sins so that we may repent and return to the presence of our Heavenly Father. I believe in Josheph Smith, the prophet of the restoration. He translated the Book of Mormon for the good of all mankind. I believe in the sanctity of temples. In them, one can draw closer to the Lord than in any other place on earth. I believe in the sacred nature of the family unit - that marriage performed in the holy temple is for eternity, and that a family can be together forever. What more could I want as a wife and mother than to live with my family for eternity? I believe in using our gift of agency to make right choices that will propel us closer to our heaveny home. I believe that the first principles and ordinances of the gospel are: first faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, second repentence, third, baptism by immersion for the remission of sins, and fourth, the laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

How I live my faith

I try to be an active and attentive member of my neighborhood. I like knowing what's going on in the lives of those I care about because I like being able to help out if I can. I don't pry or gossip. I just try to keep in touch. I want others to be able to rely on me, not only for their temporal wellbeing, but for spiritual uplift as well. Sometimes people need more than a vase of flowers or a plate of cookies. They need to know that their Heavenly Father loves them and that He is watching out for them. I like to think that He can use me as an instrument to do good. At church, I provide service by teaching the adult women. This calling can be quite intimidating as there are many wise and experienced women in the congregation. However, this teaching call has forced me to learn more about what I believe and why. I also create a congregational newsletter. This is published once a month and it helps us, as neighbors and friends, to feel more united.
