Hi I'm Valerie

I'm a Middle Eastern dance instructor & performer, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I finished college with a bachelor's in Design before I got married. Now I'm a mom with four kids (including teenagers, scary!) I also have a home business doing book repair (and making artist's books). On top of that I teach and perform Middle Eastern dance (bellydance), including doing most of my own choreography, costume and jewelry design and construction. Yes, that means I'm crazy busy.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I know it's true. My parents were members, and I was raised going to church. I know that it is true not because of any spectacular answer to prayer, but the simple confirmation that is gained by living the teachings of Jesus day to day and feeling the peace and confirmation from God that what I was doing was right. I'm not perfect, so, obviously, I haven't always had that feeling, but that's what repentance is for, and when I've made mistakes I'm unhappy until I've corrected them. I served as a missionary, and that was difficult, but also a good experience. It did nothing but strengthen my beliefs.

How I live my faith

I help at church by working with the children, teaching classes and helping with the Cub Scout program that our church is affiliated with. Cub Scouts is fun and the children are wonderful to work with. Their simple faith and pure intent is an example to me, so many times. This does not mean they are not difficult sometimes, but with children best results come from love and patience. I also visit with the other women in our congregation and try to help them when they are having a difficult time. I think the casserole is something of a 'Mormon' joke when some family is in need, but I've fixed food for people who are having a difficult time of it and they are always grateful. Food is such a basic need. I'm always grateful when people help me! I try to help the people around me, regardless of their religious beliefs, to be tolerant, compassionate, and a good example.
