Hi I'm Jeri

I grew up in Texas and currently live in Colorado. I have a bachelor's in math education, and I love the outdoors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I got my bachelor's degree in math education, but I haven't used it yet. I had a kid instead, but he is so worth it. Every day I watch him imitate everything I do, and I think that there is probably no more important teaching job in the world than what I'm doing right now. I don't have to be a stay-at-home mom, but I wanted to, and I feel very lucky that I'm able to. I also love camping and hiking, reading a good book, singing and playing the piano.

Why I am a Mormon

People decide what religion they want to be because of what they believe is true. I believe God answers prayers. So I prayed about the Book of Mormon and got an answer. It is true. Furthermore, everything else the Mormon church teaches makes sense and is in line with the things that Christ taught when he was on the earth. So I want to be a Mormon. I want to become more like Christ. What higher ideal is there?

How I live my faith

Everybody in the Mormon church receives a calling. These callings rotate depending on circumstances. Right now I get to work with girls ages 8 through 11. We meet twice a month to do activities, and so the girls can interact and have fun together. Last week we made ladybug oreos. Prior to that activity, we painted a huge mural of all of God's creations, then hung it up at church for everyone to see on Sunday. A big part of living my faith includes going to church on Sunday. When Christ was on the earth, he instituted the sacrament so his apostles and disciples had a way to remember his sacrifice and renew their promise to follow him and keep his commandments. I do the same thing, for the same reasons. I also think if you have faith in something, it's important to keep that faith alive by learning more, talking with others, and making commitments to act and do good.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Missionary work is a priesthood responsibility, which is why young men are encouraged to serve a mission between 19 to 21 years old. Women may also be inspired to serve a mission. Show more Show less
