Hi I'm William Cook

I'm a college basketball player, I'm serving a mission in Boise, Idaho, I love my friends and family, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Right now I'm serving a mission in Boise, Idaho. But besides that, I grew up in the wonderful city of Mesa, Arizona. I red-shirted a semester at Salt Lake Community College before coming on my mission. I had awesome roommates and made great friends and memories. I'll play basketball for another year at SLCC when I return, and hopefully transfer to a great university (I'm hoping BYU, but we'll see where the Lord has in mind). I don't yet know what I would like to major in, and I hope that's also something I can figure out when I return. I'm thinking either something medical, or in the engineering field. Or I could just choose to be a bio-mechanical engineer and be both! I love music, and listen to all kinds. Boston, Coldplay, Kanye West, Drake, John Denver, Rolling Stones, Jack Johnson, DeadMau5, Bach, Holst, Mo-Tab, Kid Cudi, and many more. Really, all kinds. Anything that uplifts, makes me feel good, or that I can just relate to. I've dabbled in drawing, and took a class at SLCC. I also took a couple of ceramics classes, and love to see how people express themselves, thier feelings, their ideas, or simply how they see the world. I really enjoy art, and I hope to pursue that talent a little later in my life, but right now as a missionary I'll just stick with some creative doodling in my planner, haha.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a mormon because I love my Savior, Jesus Christ. He gives me guidance in my life. Without that, this life would be nothing and I would be lost. I know who I am. I know what's expected of me, and who I can become. I know where I'm from, and that there's so much more than just this life. It blesses my family. My family is very close, and I love them so much. We still have our trials, but with guidance from the gospel, we just become tighter and tighter. One of the most precious things to me is knowing that my mom, dad, and two older sisters can be together forever. I'm a Mormon because it brings me peace, happiness, and security. I'm a Mormon because I love my family. I'm a Mormon because I love God.

How I live my faith

As I've said before, I am serving as a missionary. But I have also served as a leader in many youth groups where I've organized events and activities. The Church is closely tied to the Boy Scouts of America, and I have had the opportunity to hold positions of leadership many times in there. I love doing service projects, and helping others. Really, living the faith is just trying to love. Love other people. One of my favorite scriptures is John 4:8, which says that if you don't love, you don't know God, because God is Love. It touches me to hear that. Truly God loves us and has a plan for us. If we want to get closer to Him, then we need to think less of ourselves and more of others. Serve others, and express your love. All of us are children of our Heavenly Father, and so all of us are brothers and sisters. It's hard and there's still a lot of work to do in order to love everyone, but I'm trying! I find a lot of joy in forgiveness and helping other people out in whatever way I can. I want to be everyone's friend!
