Hi I'm Patrice

I've lived in America, Japan, and England. I love to run. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a running fanatic. I love to do the big hills and run up stairs just because I can. I'm also going to college and I study English and creative writing. I love my major because I think it's amazing how you can take words and mold and shape them into pictures that evoke feeling. I also love how words and sentences can be put together. That's right--I'm the nerd who actually likes diagramming sentences and dissecting words into morphemes. I think language is a powerful tool that God has given us to do good. For randomness's sake, I also like doing amateur photography, eating very chocolate-y ice cream, playings sports such as frisbee and kickball, and being with friends and family.

Why I am a Mormon

I love the gospel of Jesus Christ. I love how it makes me feel. When I do what Christ has asked me to do, I am happier and more at peace with myself, others, and life. I feel hopeful and confident about the future. Life isn't perfect, but I know things will turn out okay. I love that the gospel makes sense. With some things, the more you learn about them, the more confusing they get. With the gospel, the more I learn about it, the more logical it is. For example, it makes complete sense to me how the church in Christ's day became corrupted by apostasy. It's prophesied over and over in the Bible and in the Book of Mormon. It makes perfect sense why the Lord would need to restore His true Church to the earth, complete with prophets, apostles, priesthood authority, and everything that characterized the Church in ancient times. I feel the Holy Spirit testifying to me that this is true whenever I learn about it, pray about it, or read about it in the scriptures. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is God's only true Church. I know it is because He told me through His spirit. I didn't see an angel, but I felt something in my heart, something that I can't fully describe but I can also never deny. If you're wondering about this Church, pray. God loves you and wants you to know truth. He will give you an answer.

How I live my faith

When you're living the gospel of Jesus Christ, it changes you. You are continually striving to become someone better, someone more like Christ. It happens slowly. We do our best, strengthened by His grace, and His grace makes up for what we lack. I try to live my faith by always trying to do a little better. I try to listen a little better, be a little more patient, read God's word with a bit more diligence. I pray daily and try to have the Holy Spirit with me. On the more formal side, there is a program in the Church called the visiting teaching program, and I am a supervisor for that program. How it works is that all the women in the congregation are paired up to visit a few other women in the congregation each month to see to their temporal, spiritual, and emotional well-being. Essentially, to be a friend to them and see if they need help. What I do is that several visiting teaching partnerships report to me on how their women are doing. Then I send in the report to someone else, and it gets up to the president of the women's organization in the church, which is called Relief Society. It's a wonderful program, and I know that visiting teaching is an inspired program the Lord implemented to take care of the women in the Church.
