Hi I'm Fred

I was born in California, grew up in Oklahoma. I am a physician in the midwest. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father of 5. I enjoy gardening, photography and hunting. I have been involved with Boy Scouts for 20 yrs. I enjoy high adventures. I am a workaholic as a surgeon 60 plus hours a week.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been on both sides of sinning and being obedient. It is much easier to be obedient and does not hurt near as much the grief of sin and process of repentance. I have seen this in my life and the life of many others. What I see daily in my practice of medicine is a constant reminder of the pain of disobedience of the commandments of God. I see daily in my surgical practice the blessings with obedience to the Word of Wisdom and the problems when it is not followed. I have prayed and felt the Holy Ghost bear witness to me of the truth that God lives and His Son Jesus Christ lives and is our Savior. I have prayed and God has answered my prayers. Sometimes my prayers are answered in miraculous ways. I know that God and Jesus Christ live and love each one of us. I received a spiritual witness from the Holy Ghost. I remember the spirit coming over me and filling every particle of my being. I have done as Jesus suggested in John 7:17 "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." I know that Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God and the book of Mormon is true. I know this from feeling the Holy Ghost several times. It was a burning in my bosom as described in Doctrine and Covenants 9:7-9. This has happened many times as I have read the account of Joseph Smith Jr and as I have taught about him to others and hearing it spoken. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true church of Jesus Christ restored to the earth in these Latter-days. I know it is led by a prophet of God on these Latter-days. I know that Thomas S. Monson is a true prophet of God. I have felt the Holy Spirit testify to me of his calling.

How I live my faith

We meet in the Boy Scouts of America weekly. I have been a scoutmaster and now serve as a Chartered Organization Leader. I enjoy working with the 12-18 year old boys as they progress in character development, citizenship training, mental and physical fitness in the great outdoos classroom. It is a joy to watch as they have fun and develop leadership skills and function as a team. Our greatest memories involve the 1-2 years of planning, training, preparing for, earning money and finally going on high adventure trips. My most memorable one was sailing in the Bahamas. It was such a change from being in the green soy bean and corn fields of the midwest to the different shades of blue of the ocean.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Mormons (members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) believe the Holy Bible is the word of God as far as it is translated correctly. It has come through the writings of God's prophets instructing his people. It is the bedrock of all Christianity. It had the history of God and his instructions through prophets to his people. The peoples repeated cycles of repentance, obedience and the joy and blessings that come with obedience, becoming wealthy, prideful then becoming sinful and sorrow of the consequence of their sin and suffering at the hands of other nations. It has the highlight of history with the prophecy of, birth, ministry, suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
