Hi I'm Chantel

Hi. I'm at school in Hawaii. I love to travel and I hope to become a Foreign Service Officer someday. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My dad joined the military when I was young, so we moved around. I got to live in Germany when I was 8 for a couple of years. I wanted to learn more about other people after that, so I went to college and started to major in Teaching English as a Second Language. I was in a small school, and I soon knew every international student there. I studied abroad in Japan, and went back again two years later for an internship. I discovered that I really enjoy learning about other cultures, but not teaching English. I'm now studying Cultural Anthropology with a few Political Science Courses thrown in. I think I'd like to work as a Foreign Service Officer if I qualify. I'm also interested in Entrepreneurship. I may do my own thing and start my own company when I finish school. Who knows? As a Mormon, I'm focused on learning anything at anytime, so I truly feel that the world is at my feet. I'm not too worried about getting a job in this economy. I'm at peace with myself and the world, so nothing will stop me from becoming better and doing something worthwhile, even if I have to create my own opportunities.

Why I am a Mormon

This is a tough question. I worry about being laughed at or people not taking me seriously. I didn't stay a Mormon just because that's how I was raised or because the lifestyle appeals to me. I'm a Mormon because I truly believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ as it has been restored by Joseph Smith. I believe this is it. Once I truly began to understand the doctrines I've been taught, it changed my life. I'm very happy and secure in my faith.

How I live my faith

I try to read my scriptures and pray everyday, but I'm still not the best at remembering. When I do, it makes a big difference in my day. I attend church on Sundays (all three hours of it), and I teach Sunday School. Being a Sunday School teacher is one of my favorite assignments I've ever been given. I learn so much, and I can connect with more people in my ward because I think about them when I read the scriptures and lesson material. I am in a Singles Ward, so everyone is a single young adult, somewhere between 18 and around 30 years old. When I prepare, I pray for guidance to know what will be most relevant to the others in the class and I look for ways to make the material engaging. My favorite thing to do is get examples and stories from those in my class, because they always have the best things to say!

What do Mormons believe about "eternal life?"

Chantel
Eternal life is living with God. The reason we'd want to live with God is because He is such a pure being and has perfect love. Love is the best feeling in the world, and anything bad that happens in the world happens because of a lack of love. We will never love with the pure love God has for us, but we should dedicate our lives to loving others and improving our ability to love God and his children deeply. If you love God, you will do the things He asks, which includes commandments He has given, especially about serving each other. Show more Show less
