Hi I'm Matthew

I'm the oldest of 5 kids. I'm serving a 2-year mission in Colorado Springs. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hey! I'm Matthew, I have a lot of things I value in this world. First of all, I love my God and my Savior Jesus Christ. They've given me all I have, and continue to support me through all my hardships and trials. I love my family! I was fortunate to grow up in a loving home, with parents who cared about me and my four (awesomely bodacious) younger siblings. I'm also into a lot of sports, especially swimming and basketball. Swimming has come in really handy when I've applied for lifeguarding jobs--that's what I did for work for the past few years. I also like hanging out with friends, both Mormon and non-mormon. I'm pretty easily entertained, so I'm up for a lot of things.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in the church, but one thing I've learned is everyone needs to gain their own testimony of its truth, whether lifelong member or convert. It was only in the past year I gained that testimony. Before, I went to church because that's just what my family did. But I did pretty much whatever I wanted; I didn't understand why I had to go along with it 100%. As I grew closer to Jesus Christ though, as I followed His teachings more closely, I started understanding why. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is here to help us. The Savior Himself established it so we could all enjoy greater blessings from our Father in Heaven. I've been so blessed by following the gospel. Being Mormon has really put my life in perspective, and it's given me a "life map" I can always follow.

How I live my faith

Right now I'm serving a 2-year mission in Colorado Springs! I'm having the time of my life, finding out what it means to be a servant of Jesus Christ. It's incredible to teach people the gospel and see how it changes their lives. I've seen families brought so much closer together, hearts healed, and people gain a new light in their lives—all through following the church's teachings. And for me personally, I know I've become a much better person through this service. I can't wait to see what the rest of my mission brings!

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Joseph Smith was the translator, not the author, of the Book of Mormon. If you look at the Bible, you find out it was written over thousands of years by various prophets, like Moses or Isaiah. All these writings were collected and put together in the modern King James version. The Book of Mormon is pretty similar—ancient prophets from the Americas wrote the different books, then Mormon, one of these prophets, gathered them together and made them into a single book. The Book of Mormon was then hidden away for a while, until God saw fit to reveal it to his modern-day prophet Joseph Smith. By the power of God, Joseph Smith translated this ancient record, and now we all have the opportunity to read it today. By reading and praying to know if it's true, God will tell you that it is scripture and is what it claims to be. Show more Show less
