Hi I'm Wendell

I am a retired statistician living in Utah with my wonderful wife. I have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. And I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a statistician and graduated from BYU with a Masters in Statistics. I worked as a statistician for Nestle (last 25 years was with Nestle Purina) in their research department for 36 years and have now retired. I was married to my first wife for 36 years, but unfortunately she died of cancer. I married to another wonderful women and we have been married for 2 1/2 years now. I have 3 wonderful children, and unfortunately, they all live far from me now, Denver and the east coast. I also have 7 wonderful grandchildren and of course they also are far away. As a youth and young adult, I use to play basketball a lot, but now I have settled down and bowl (too old to play basketball anymore). I guess I am above average bowler.. It is nice to get out and be with other people, who are nice, who do not take the bowling too seriously. I also like to watch all kinds of sports. I used to do a little woodworking. I have made some small pieces of furniture. It is a nice feeling of accomplishment when a piece of furniture turns out nice. I do not do much the woodworking now, as when I moved from St. Louis to Orem, my woodworking tools got put into storage as the current house does not room for them. I also like to read, mostly history books and sometimes a good mystery novel.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the Church, but one of the reason I am an active Mormon is because I believe the Book of Mormon to be the Word of God. When I read the Book of Mormon I always feel closer to God and it always confirms my belief that Jesus Christ is the son of God. Some people have gotten a dramatic answer to a prayer about the Book of Mormon being true. My prayers about the Book of Mormon have been answered in a more gradual way. Each time I read I find new treasures about the gospel that reassures me of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. It is also, because of the Book of Mormon, that I have a greater belief in the Bible and the life and teaching of Jesus. Because of the Book of Mormon, I do not have an doubts that Jesus was a real person, was the Son of God, was born in Jerusalem, and that he died and was resurrected. Another reason why I am a Mormon is "by your fruits ye shall know them". I have found that keeping the commandments brings me greater happiness in my life. I see a lot of misery in the world today, and most of it is from people not living the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I know I would not be as happy and would not have the blessing of a wonderful family without the Mormon church in my life.

How I live my faith

I consider myself very active in the Church. I try to attend Church every Sunday. I also try to keep all of the commandments, like being honest and chaste, being kind to other people. I do this because I think this is what Jesus would want me to do and I feel better when I attend Church and help others. I read the scriptures everyday. I find that reading the scriptures helps me feel closer to my Heavenly Father and Jesus. I have held many different positions in the Church, including being a Bishop and a counselor to several Bishops. I have also worked with the youth and the elderly. I recently was a volunteer delivering meals on wheels. Sometimes when I think about an assignment to help others, I often feel uncomfortable or would rather spend the time doing something else, but after I have helped someone, I always feel happy that I was able to help.
