Hi I'm Parker Howell

I play tennis. I play ping-pong. I run. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I really like food. I'm 18. I'm going to Buenos Aires on a mission. I love Argentina so much and can't wait to get there. I have 5 sisters and a brother. I love my family a lot. I play table tennis (only amateurs call it ping-pong). Running is by far my favorite past-time. I love running places and I rarely walk. I've run one marathon so far and hope to qualify for Boston after my mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that it is the true church. I grew up my whole life going to church and doing everything that I had to do to keep my parents happy. But, until just a couple of years ago I hated church. I was pretty discouraged and I started to read the scriptures and to pray. Then one day I felt and recognized God's love for me. This made me pray even harder. And God answered me. I felt the spirit of God. I've felt it since. And now, I know that the Book of Mormon is true and that Joseph Smith translated it. I know Jesus atoned for my sins and I have felt the very real power that comes from the atonement in my life. I know Thomas S. Monson is called of God and is inspired. It took me time, but I now have a knowledge of a loving father in heaven and I want to do all that I can to live worthy to return to live with him. I am a Mormon because this gospel truly brings happiness to my life. I am a Mormon because I know that this is how I can not only be happy right now, but how I will be happier than I can even imagine when I make it back to heaven. If you want to know: if this church is true, if Joseph Smith truly restored it through the power of God, if the Book of Mormon is true, if Jesus really atoned for us, whatever, I promise you by all that I know, love and stand for, in the name of Jesus Christ, that if you pray sincerely, that God will answer you and show you his love for you. I'm not crazy, I'm not lying... God answered me! He will answer you!

How I live my faith

Because I know that this is the true church, I am trying to do all that I can to live as God would have me live. I'm not even close to perfect, but I promise that I am trying as hard as I can to please God, and to help those around me. The most important things I do to live the gospel are: praying and reading my scriptures every night and morning. This is what changed my life and what keeps me going. One of my favorite scriptures is Alma 37:6-7. It basically says, "by small and simple things are great things brought to pass." I consider my conversion to this gospel the greatest thing I have in my life, and I know that my conversion came through simply praying and reading. I live my faith by striving to be the kindest individual that I can be. I can honestly say that I try my very hardest to be patient with and to love every person I meet. I also do all I can to serve others. Because I am trying to follow Christ I know that I have to do all that I can for others and not worry about myself. I try to magnify my priesthood through service. I try to do as much temple work as I realistically can because I know that I am literally giving those people who died without the gospel a chance to find more happiness than they could have ever imagined. I'm also doing all that I can to prepare to serve a full-time mission. I spend as much time as I can studying the gospel so that I will be able to teach through the power of the Holy Ghost.

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Parker Howell
Pray sincerely. I know that God will answer your prayers because he has answered mine. Reading scriptures is also hugely important, often my prayers are answered when reading scriptures. If you want to increase faith in Jesus Christ read about him in the Bible, or the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Take a "leap of faith" and live like Jesus would have you live, and it will be hard for you not to feel increased faith in Christ. Show more Show less
