Hi I'm Rees Checketts

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Rees and I am a freshman in college. I am aslo a recruiter at my university and work with high schools all over my area. I am majoring in biology and hope to one day go to medical school. All my life I have played basketball and football. I am the oldest member of my family. I have six brothers and one sister. I just received my mission call to Suva, Fiji and will leave May 16 for a full-time 24 month mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Mormon Church but I have received a testimony of this gospel and its truthfulness. I remain faithful in this church because of the happiness and peace that being a Mormon brings me in my life. Throughout my life I have learned to recognize that the Lord is with us in all that we do. If we are actively seeking him we will see him bless our lives. Over the past two years I have written down at least one instance a day where I have seen the hand of the Lord bless my life. This has become much easier for me as I go about my day looking for him. I know that he watches over us in everything that we do. I am grateful for the atonement of Jesus Christ and know that through it I can be cleansed of all sins and live with him again. He has a plan for each of us and wants nothing more than to bring us back into his presence. This is my testimony. I am grateful for it and the strength that it brings me. It has special meaning to me and brings me peace that I have received a knowledge of these things through the Spirit of the Lord. It is in his name that I say these things, even Jesus Christ. Amen.

How I live my faith

Actively participating in my church has blessed me greatly. I have a calling in my ward where me and another lady in my ward are assigned the responsibility of bringing together a small group of apartments once a week for a scripture thought and activity. This is a very important job in my college ward because all of us live away from home and do not see our family regularly and my calling is to make them feel as though we can all support each other as though we are a family. Another calling that I have in my ward is to visit several apartments monthly. In this calling I am supposed to: bring a gospel message, befriend my apartments, and offer of my available resources where necessary. Several times I have been asked by members of these apartments to offer priesthoood blessings to the sweet sisters who needed to be comforted. I know that this calling is both for them and for me because I have seen blessings in all of our lives as we are faithful and dilligent.
