Hi I'm Janie

My name Janie. I grew up, the only girl in a family with 5 brothers, I survived! I am a mother, grandma and great-grandma.

About Me

I grew up in a hard working family. I had my first job at the age of 13 after school and during summer. I did child care, domestic and textile work. In middle age I became a dental asistant working for a local dentist for 16 years. In 1991 I moved to Orlando, FL to live with my daughter. Before moving to FL I had attended the same church all my life. After moving to Orlando I missed attending church, so I went out in search of a church. Failing to find one that I felt comfortable in, I prayed to Heavenly Father to help me find a church. In a week or two after my prayer two Mormon Sister missionaries knocked on our door. They asked me if I was a member of a church and I told them yes, but not in Orlando. They asked me if I would be interested in learning about their church - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They asked me if I had ever heard of the Book of Mormon. When I said No they asked if they could come in and tell me about it. I invited them in and I was interested in what they told me. They asked me if I would read the Book of Mormon and pray about it. I agreed and as I read I became even more interested. After much reading, studying and praying I was baptized on March 2, 1992. I moved back to GA in 1996 and found much to my surprise that there was a unit of the church here in this little town.

Why I am a Mormon

As the missionaries told me how the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was restored by the boy prophet Joseph Smith in his search for a church to join I found I could relate to what he was feeling. As I read the Book of Mormon I could relate to the trials of Lehi and his family as they struggled to follow the direction of the Lord. I was excited to hear about Joseph Smith and excited to read the Book of Mormon and excited to have the missionaries come and teach me more. The missionaries invited me to attend church. When I did I felt welcome and comfortable.I continued to attend until I was baptized. I believe the Book of Mormon is the word of God just as I believe the Bible to be the word of God. I believe the BOM is another testament of Jesus Christ. I pray to my Heavenly Father every day. I'm thankful to know He is only a prayer away. I believe if we are obedient we will be blessed.

How I live my faith

I attend Church regularly. I have served as a teacher of the young children in our unit of the church. I have been part of the presidency of our women's group as well as the secretary. I am a faithful visiting teacher. The Brothers and Sisters in the Church are assigned other Brothers and Sisters to visit and watch over to help them in times of need and so they will know that Heavenly Father loves and cares about their welfare. I try to be a good example of Jesus Christ. I read my scriptures and monthly messages from our latter day prophet that is printed in our monthly magazine. I strive to live by the commandments and the counsel of our current leaders. I am kind to my neighbors and help them when they need me. I share my belief in God with those I come in contact with. I pray every day and give thanks for all my blessings. I also pray for my children and grand children and others.
