Hi I'm Ryan Atherton

I play all sports, I have lots of random talents, I love to laugh and make people laugh and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I grew up in a small town in Vermont and I am the middle child of 5. I have two younger brothers and two older sisters and my parents, we definitely have always had a full house. I love my family! love to be outside. I've always been an athlete and play just about anything, but my favorites are basketball, golf, and snowboarding. I also love being out on the boat or in the woods on an ATV or hunting. I enjoy all kinds of music, I play the guitar and am learning the piano right now. I've traveled to Europe a couple times and plan to continue to visit other parts of the world throughout my life. I have been to 4 years of college already, I'm a biology major but have not graduated yet. . so after my mission I will head back and finish up!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family and ever since I can remember I have been going to church. In the town where I grew up we were the only Mormon family around and it was never easy stand up for what I knew to be true and often missed opportunities to do so. Slowly my feelings about church changed a little and as I got older I often went because it was what we did on Sundays and not because I wanted to go. I wasn't 100% sure I wanted to go on a mission like I knew I was supposed to, and when I graduated and went to college I quickly stopped attending church on Sundays and got caught up in the world. I spent every day doing things I loved to do (golf 3 times a week, beach every day, hanging out with friends)..but I was never completely happy. For the longest time I tried to push it away but I knew that something wasn't quite right. To make a long story short as I began to go back to church and to do the things that the Lord has asked members of his church to do I Immediately felt the change in my life. I felt the happiness again that I had felt earlier in my life and knew that it can only be accredited to the Gospel that my family and I believe in. So, though I was raised a Mormon I was finally converted to the Gospel myself. I am a Mormon because I know only this Gospel brings the joy God intends us to have in this life and the life to come. The world cannot.

How I live my faith

I'm currently serving as a full-time missionary in Southern California where I get the sacred opportunity to represent the Savior and represent His church. I try and find every opportunity that I can to serve everyone in the community. I try and offer my time and talents through physical service projects and/or through the great service of sharing with them The Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. Everyone recognizes missionaries here as soon as they see our ties and tags with Jesus Christs name on them, so to live my faith I strive to keep the covenant I made at baptism to stand as a witness of Christ at all times, in all things, and in all places.
