Hi I'm Billy

I am a convert. I went to a Methodist church as a youth. I did not accept the Gospel until I saw how Mormons followed Jesus Christ

About Me

I was born in Marion, Virginia. I graduated from North Surry High School in Mount Airy, North Carolina. I received my Associate of Arts Degree and Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration Management from the University of Maryland. My post-graduate studies were done with the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. I grew up on a tobacco farm where I learned many valuable lessons about the value of hard work, friendships, and real estate ownership that I would remember throughout my life. I enlisted in the Army & was blessed to serve throughout the world. I was truly blessed with my first assignment being at Fort Bragg, NC where I was able to visit Mount Airy regularly. Because of this I was able to meet & date the most gorgeous girl who became my loving wife. Together Ressie & I have lived in Germany, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, & Virginia & raised 2 beautiful daughters, Laurie & Jennifer. I began my real estate career in June 1991 after completing over twenty years of service in the U.S. Army. Because of my success as a REALTOR & Broker, I was able to have ownership in five CENTURY 21 franchises. Then in 2004 I became a Real Estate Appraiser & opened up a successful appraisal office. Today I am semi-retired and enjoying the blessings of my life with my wife. All of my successes have occurred because of the tremendous support I've received from our Heavenly Father, my family & those I’ve met in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I went to a Methodist church while growng up & my wife, Ressie, went to a Baptist church. After we got married & whenever we moved, we would visit many churchs in our new area to find one we both liked. We were never able to find a church were we both felt comfortable or accepted their religious beliefs or teaching. I had almost become convinced there was no acceptable organized religion. It was not until after my wife & daughter, Jennifer, were baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, that I found people who were living the very gospel they were teaching. After 18 months of attending their church activities, I was invited to meet with the missionaries to hear more about their Gospel & decide in my heart if this was the Church in which I should accept Jesus Christ & be baptized. After meeting with the missionaries, reading the Book of Mormon, hearing more about our purpose on earth, attending various Church activities, & fellowshipping with their members, I felt the Spirit confirm to me that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church which I had been seeking all my life. I believe in Jesus Christ as the Savior & Redeemer. He & His teachings are at the center of the Church doctrine & practices. The gospel of Jesus Christ provides answers to life’s questions & practical solutions to today’s challenges. Latter-day Saints find joy in being members of the Church, living the teachings of Jesus Christ & serving others.

How I live my faith

Through abilities and skills which I've learned from the school of hard knocks, I've been blessed continuously in my life. I truly enjoy sharing my experience and knowledge with others. My abilities and skills are continually enhanced by helping individuals avoid some of the errors, mistakes and trials I've experienced. I truly appreciated assisting others to achieve their dreams and overcome hardships! As a Latter-day Saint, I believe in Jesus Christ as the Savior and Redeemer of mankind. He and His teachings are at the center of the Church doctrine and practices. The gospel of Jesus Christ provides answers to life’s questions and practical solutions to today’s challenges. Latter-day Saints find joy in being members of the Church, living the teachings of Jesus Christ and serving others. The traditional family is the fundamental unit of society and must be safeguarded. I am currently serving as our Bishop's 1st Counselor. I enjoy working with the members of our congregation to host activities and share spiritual guidance throughout our community. I love all our brothers and sisters in Christ. I strive to learn more about our Saviour Jesus Christ and apply his teachings continuously. Romans 15:4 reads, "For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scripture might have hope." As I share and help others grow in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I feel closer and closer to my Heavenly Father.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

Billy
The Church of Jesus Christ is open to all people, even those who have same gender attraction. People attracted to the same gender and who live God's standards of morality may find fellowship and spiritual growth in the Church. I know that God loves all of his children. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Billy
We worship Jesus Christ. We study the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God in our church meetings. We also study the Book of Mormon which is another testament of Christ. I believe in Jesus Crist who was born of the Virgin Mary in Bethelem, who was baptized by John the Baptist, who healed the sick, taught us to love one another, and died on the cross for my sins. I love the stories of the Bible about the life of Jesus. I also enjoy reading The Book of Mormon which gives me another testament of his life and teachings. I believe all churches that teach us to follow the teachings and example of Jesus Christ are good and help pull us closer to Him. I am so grateful to belong to the restored church, with the teachings and authority as organized by Jesus Christ nearly 2,000 years ago. We are a world-wide church with nearly 14 million members that is lead by a prophet like in biblical times. I know Jesus Christ is my personal savior and I'm trying to live like he lived.
