Hi I'm Laura

I love to travel. I love my family. I'm a Public Health/Spanish major. I'm a liberal. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi everyone! I am an outgoing young woman who loves to be outside, read, write, listen to music and travel a ton. I love to go swimming, canoeing, pretty much anything dealing with water. At the moment, I am a senior in college studying Spanish and Global Health set to graduate soon which is both exhilarating yet terrifying at the same time. I am so excited to be able to work instead of studying non-stop for a change. After getting some work experience, I plan on continuing with my education by getting a Masters of Public Health/MD degree. Never a dull moment in my life!

Why I am a Mormon

I am actually a convert so I feel I identify with many people visiting this site; I myself visited an older version of this site when I decided to look up churches after graduating from high school. I remember feeling as if a lot of my questions had been answered with this Church and I remember just feeling an extra measure of love and peace whenever I read the Book of Mormon (or any of the scriptures!), meeting with the missionaries and attending church that I didn't have before. Through trying times in my life, the gospel has always been there for me and I always felt comforted knowing that Jesus loves me, that my family will always be together forever (I love my family very much), and that I am an important and loved daughter of God.

How I live my faith

I live my faith through prayer, scripture study and striving to keep the commandments. Also, I live my faith by doing as Jesus Christ commanded "Love one another as I have loved you." I volunteer a lot both inside and outside of church along with fulfilling my calling as an activity coordinator. I plan for activities on Monday nights for my ward since we are in a singles ward which means no one is married. I coordinate what activities we will do and plan spiritual lessons as well. It is a great calling because we always get to have fun and I really have gotten to know almost all of the people in my ward by serving them in this manner. In addition, we have visiting teaching where the women in the church visit each other to offer any type of help, friendship and fun! I actively participate in visiting teaching because it is so important to have friends and I really enjoy getting to know some of the women in my ward a little better. I try to do the best that I can to help others.

Are Mormons Christians?

This was probably the most perplexing question I ever received from people not of my faith. Of course we are Christians! Christians are those who believe that Jesus Christ is our savior, that he died for the atonement of our sins and he will come again. Mormons definitely do believe in all of that and we believe that he is center to our faith. When most think of the Book of Mormon, most don't realize that the full name is "The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ" or that the full name of our church is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints." Jesus Christ is one of the most important figures in our faith and in our lives. We are commanded to live our life just like him and we must strive to do that every day. When we fail, we use the atonement that Jesus Christ gave to us to achieve forgiveness for our sins. In act and in faith, we definitely are Christians. Show more Show less
