Hi I'm Elke

I am realistic and a planner. I have a degree in physics and four children. I don't like to slow down. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have a love for learning and for accomplishing. I want my life to make a difference. The first difference that I feel that I must make is at home, among my own family members. With four children under seven, just working on this part of making a difference is more than a full-time job. Someday in the future, I will expand the difference that I make in the world. My larger-scale dream is to redefine public education. Having grown up in a public system that I don't feel served me very well, I intend to fight for variation and choice among publicly funded school options. Although I would fight for any step in that direction, my ultimate goal is vouchers for all students. For now, any extra moments that I can find at home are spent reading, writing, creating and shaping my home to better fit my family. I enjoy photography and photo editing, biographies, and learning new skills. In college, I spent sun-up-to-sun-down investing myself in my physics degree. When some people learn about my degree, they are sorry for me that I am now "just" a stay at home mom. But that's nonsense! As I poured over my studies, I knew what my ultimate goal was. I am a better mother for the training that I received in college. I can see the world for what it is. I can problem solve with the best of them. I can make a difficult goal and carry though with it, and I have set this example for my children. In getting a difficult degree, I proved to myself what I am capable of.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have found it to be true. After the experiences that my life has provided, to deny its truthfulness would be dishonest. I would no longer have respect for myself. I have seen how the Lord has led me through my life when I have been willing to do what he asks of me. And I have felt the joy that His blessings bring when I am obedient. From being granted breath and a healthy body at birth, to the this very moment, the blessings I have received from my Heavenly Father have been more than I could ever deserve. A lifetime in His service will never repay Him. But I have to try! And as I try, I see how more blessings come and how a life according to His will is the greatest life that anyone could have.

How I live my faith

Among my congregation, I am currently a youth leader. I work most directly with the 16 to 18 year-old girls. They have a special place in my heart. I love watching them as they secure their feet in the ground before their leap into being an adult and on their own. These young women are some of the best people I have ever known. I learn so much from them about being strong and knowing who I am. From them, I also learn about friendship and gratitude.
