Hi I'm Joseph

I am a full time student and ultimate frisbee enthusiast. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently in school for my undergraduate degree after which I intend to pursue a Master's degree in psychology and become a licensed therapist and counselor. I enjoy solving puzzles. I like to partake of interesting movies and music when I have some free time. I love to read. I have a treasure trove of useless information which can be attributed to this addiction. If I see something with text on it, chances are good I will at least start to read it.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up attending several local Christian churches as my parents moved frequently and shared custody of me and my brother. I was confused at how each church, even those belonging to the same denomination, "proclaimed Christ" differently. They acted like they were doing the same thing, but things would be different, often markedly so, from one congregation to another. Many of the leaders of these congregations seemed very insincere. While my fellow attendees were all nice, helpful people, I often felt that I was being manipulated for some ends I never understood by leaders in various places. It was also difficult to get comprehensible, direct answers to theological questions from clergy or congregations. From such experiences, I came to believe that there may not be a god. Over time, I would fall into believing, somewhat vehemently, that there could be no god. After some time had passed, I came to be close friends with a Mormon. We often would discuss or debate various religious and philosophical points, and I came to know a great deal about Mormon some doctrines. Through a strange series of events, I began to attend church with him. Through another, more personal and sacred, series of events, I came to know through the Holy Ghost that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and that Joseph Smith was an instrument in the Lord's hand to restore His church in our times. I've been so grateful for the accepting arms of the Lord after such a long time turning from his presence and denying his existence that I have not felt to turn from Him in such a way again, despite my many faults and frustrations.

How I live my faith

I like to help people. I believe that we follow the first great commandment by living the second to the fullest. For me, religion is a very personal and private thing, but Heavenly Father's love is something that should be shared with everyone. The best ways to share that love is through kindness and service. Although I sometimes have a tendency to float through life and go with the flow of it, I think it is important to recognise the Lord's hand in my life. I try to see everything he does for me, because I'm sure that even while trying to see, there are at least as many more things that I won't be able to see.

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is the word of God given to ancient prophets for our benefit, much like the Bible. Together, these books explain and testify of God's plan for His children, so that we can know how to return to Him through our Savior, Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
