Hi I'm Russ

I'm a lifelong resident of Pleasant Grove, Utah. I have served in the Army National Guard for 25 years and I"m a Mormon.

About Me

I am the father of three boys who are doing great things in their lives right now. One is currently serving in the Oklahoma Tulsa Mission and one will be leaving shortly to serve in the Tennessee Nashiville Mission with the third finishing up High School with plans to serve a mission as well. I married my high school sweetheart after serving a mission to Osaka Japan (88-90). We will have been married 22 years this June (2012). I am currently a full-time member of the Army National Guard. I was enlisted for 22 years obtaining the rank of MSG/E8. I commisioned as a Warrant Officer in 2009 and hope to serve a few more years then retire and serve several missions as a Senior Missionary with my wife. I am a 420A (Human Resource Tech) and currently work with Recruiting & Retention in the Utah Army National Guard. In my enlisted career I served as a Flight Operations Specialist (93P), Administrative Clerk (75B), Water Purification Specialist (77W), Interrogation NCO (97E), and as a Recruiting and Retention NCO (79T). I deployed to Iraq from Jan 2003-Apr 2004. I completed my Master's in Education in 2009 with the desire to teach 5th grade if the opportunity ever arises. I have been involved in Scouting since the age of 8, obtaining the rank of Eagle. Scouting is a large part of my life and has been instrumental in guiding and directing me in the success that I have enjoyed in all aspects of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in a faithful mormon family. I was taught at a young age to believe in a loving Father in Heaven. I learned that my elder brother, Jesus Christ, prepared the way for me and each of us to return to our Father and live as eternal families through the Plan of Salvation. Christ made this possible through his atonement in the Garden of Gethsemane and his resurrection. My faith and testimony was solidified during my deployment to Iraq in 2003. I was separated from my wife and three boys. I was helpless in taking care of them. The only recourse I had was prayer to my Father in Heaven. I quickly realized that this was all I needed. As my wife and boys would face challenges I would kneel in prayer ask for guidance and assistance to help my family. Amazingly, as I would communicate with my wife each night, miracles were taking place. Neighbors, family and friends would be there as needed to take care of whatever the crisis was at hand. I had been a member all my life, it was during this time that my membership was made whole. I knew God, my Father in Heaven knew me personally. He loved me. He was there for me and all I had to do was ask and seek him. I am a Mormon because I know God lives, he is our Father in Heaven. He sent his Son, Jesus Christ to prepare the way. He teaches and communicates to us through Prophets, those in the Bible and those in the Book of Mormon and latter-day prophets on the earth today. Through the Spirit, He teaches and testifies to us the the truthfullness of all things. He lives, He is real!

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving my fellowmen each day. I currently serve in a leadership role in my home ward. I serve in my ward but i try to serve those all around me. I try to let my example show who I am and what I'm about. Above any title, rank or uniform I hope my actions speak louder than anything else. I hope that the charateristics and attributes of our Savior is what others will see in how I live my faith; that is my goal.
