Hi I'm Dean Cloward

I teach teachers to teach children. I love teaching and love children. I want the very best for them. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband, father, and professor. I love the outdoors, backpacking, skiing, swimming, and scuba diving are among my favorite activities and I that love with my family as well. We love to do these things together. I have a strong belief that we need better teachers and better schools to prepare a unique group of future leaders. That goal begins with preparing teachers at the university level in partnership with strong school districts. We need teachers who share core values of honesty, charity, service, work ethic, etc. in what they teach, by how they live.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it bring me happiness and because I know it is true. Unlike other denominations where they change their doctrine to conform to the changing demands of society, I belong to a church that changes their supports to help me live consistent to the eternal truths of the gospel given to us by Jesus Christ. I value that. I know that living true to the commandments will bring me happiness and peace amidst change. Much like the maps I use and follow while backpacking, the gospel of Christ provides clarity and direction, and when followed with exactness, leads me to places of happiness and joy.

How I live my faith

The gospel of Jesus Christ is an active doctrine where serving others, teaching and learning, and setting and achieving goals is expected. It requires daily commitment to certain activities like prayer, scripture study, and service. That service includes assigned tasks within the church, like my calling to teach the 12 and 13 year-old youth and voluntary unassigned tasks like taking bread and soup to someone who is ill, or helping someone move. Most importantly, the gospel of Jesus Christ focuses on family as the center of our Heavenly Father's plan. I love my family and try to be actively involved in their lives. I cherish time on the ski lift, drives in the car, and sitting around the campfire to understand who they are, what challenges they are facing, and how they see the world. Done consistently, they are anxious to share and seek help as they need it. It is our responsibility to teach our children to live the gospel, to be good citizens, and to contribute in meaningful ways to their community and society. Our example is the strongest truest model of how this is to be done. Learn it. Love it. Live it. And lead.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Dean Cloward
There are two reasons I share the gospel: First, we are commanded to share the "good news of the gospel" with every nation, kindred, and tongue....every brother and sister we have on earth. Second, I share it the gospel because it has brought me great joy and peace in life to know and live the gospel and I want others to experience that same joy and peace. I share it because I love it!
