Hi I'm Alma

I'm an outdoor enthusiast, proud nerd, runner, lover of life, and passionate student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love spending time enjoying the outdoors, including running, backpacking, rock climbing, skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking. I'm a Chemistry Education major at BYU, and am passionate about helping others understand the world around them. I play violin and sing in choirs; sharing music brings joy to my soul. I strive to do everything I can to serve God and His children. I am excitedly preparing to serve as a missionary in the Czech/Slovak mission!

Why I am a Mormon

I feel peace and hope when I attend church, read the Book of Mormon, and pray sincerely. I have gained a testimony that this is Christ's church restored again on the Earth. I have been blessed with a deep understanding of many of the wonderful truths that this gospel brings to our knowledge. I am so grateful for the amazing gift of personal revelation that is so unique to the LDS church. Asking sincere questions and receiving an understanding of truth for yourself is a principle that this church is built upon. It is amazing to know that I don't have to rely on the knowledge of others to get through the trials of this life; I can truly understand God's doctrines and His will for me, personally, if I have a desire to know and a prayer in my heart. This is a testament to me of God's abounding love for each and every one of His children. This ability to understand and recognize the truths of the world around us and God's great plan for the happiness of His children is to me the greatest miracle that could ever occur.

How I live my faith

I enjoy learning about my ancestors and the faith that they had. It inspires me to have the kind of courage and strength that they exhibited. I am preparing to serve a full time mission, where I will dedicate the next 18 months to teaching the people in the Czech Republic about Jesus Christ and His church. I find happiness in bringing the light of Christ into the lives of my friends and family.

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

We believe men and women each have unique responsibilities, and that they each have special qualities given to them by the Lord that can help them with these reponsibilities. A women's divine responsibility is to be the caretaker and nurturer of her children and serve throughout their lives. In our church, they have their own program, the Relief Society, in which they help those in need. They also may teach children in Sunday School and share simple gospel principles with God's children.
