Hi I'm Jerrie

I grew up in Utah. My mother was of Pioneer Immigrants to Utah, my father's father homesteaded in Oklahoma. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a grandpa of 3 and a father of 3. I worked at the giant copper mine in Salt Lake for over 30 years before retiring. While I began that career right out of High School, I served a 4 year apprenticeship at the mine in heavy equipment mechanics. I was the second generation in my family to work there. I also , thru the years, opened a small business as a "Pet Shop" owner- operator for 8 years to help supplement our income through dificult economic times that often arise in mining. This was a great family experience teaching my children the important experience of work and sacrifice. As a boy I had raised and showed Pigeons, I kept tropical fish, and other pets, thus lending nicely to our Pet Shop experience. My experience in the Store and in the Church as a boy lent itself well to speaking to larger groups of people and I became a natural leader in my Union at the mine, even getting to meet with leaders in Washington DC.

Why I am a Mormon

My father was a convert and both my parents were often not very active in the Church as I was younger, however I was encouraged to attend. Later as they seen their life expanding and themselves geting older, they returned to activity. Me on the other hand had found great joy in the programs of the youth.Scouting was so fun, I really enjoyed camping. The companionship of friends , as well as doing fun service and seeing fun places kept me going. All this willingness to just go there exposed me to the sweet feelings off the Spirit gradually started to settle in my heart. I attended Seminary in High School, mostly to be with friends, but I was gradually learning. I found myself drawn to the Sacred experiences spoken of by the older men, especially the Leadership. I could feel their love for me as well as their love of the Gospel. I also, over time, found that I had been reading the Scriptures, learning to Pray and then as I started to have those normal trials that come into our lives, I Knew where I could turn for help and comfort and Peace. The day came when I realized also that this sweet girl I was about to marry was someone I wanted to be with forever too.

How I live my faith

It's kinda funny when I was close to retirement at the mine my father, also retired from the mine told me: "Son when you leave here don't feel bad cause the hole you will leave will be like the hole you leave in a bucket of water as you pull your fist out of it". The effect on my life from having the many opportunities to serve, as I have had, I feel has left an eternal impact on my life and hopefully in some way in the lives of my family and others. My memory is filled with the experiences of service given to me from Teachers and Leaders, all of whom's names are so special to me. With the great comfort and joy I gain from knowing that my Heavenly Father lives and loves me, I too want to be able to help someone feel that strength and comfort that comes from the blessings of being a part of this great Gospel.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Jerrie
I sold my business to a young father of 2 small boys, the youngest was born early and was still in the hospital. He hadn't realized his wife was sick and he and his family had no Church they belonged to nor had he any prior need to seek faith. Upon going to the hospital to visit their baby his wife suddenly died and within a few days so did the young child. The pain and suffering this man went thru was heart breaking. He had in almost an instant lost half his family, and as he at that time understood it was forever. I think often about this event and I am so glad that I and my wife have firmly in our faith the sweet knowledge that because of the blessings we received in the Temple as we were Sealed together for Eternity, that should a sudden event happen which could seperate us from one another and our children and parents too, and events do and will come, we can feel the peace and comfort from the Spirit knowing that we can and will be reunited together forever. I hope this sad father was able to hear the peace giving good news that his loved ones can be together forever also. Show more Show less
