Hi I'm Jill

"I prayed for a city of refuge and ended up in Minneapolis. I'm a Mormon."

About Me

I was born in Iowa, grew up in southern California, and now I live in Minnesota. My educational degrees are in nursing and social work. Currently, I am working on a graduate degree at the University of Southern California-VAC. "Fight On!" I live with my sister, Jane. I have 6 children, 2 son-in-laws, 2 daughter-in-laws, and 11 grandchildren. Two cats, Rugby and Cricket, and a Jack Russell Terrorist (dog) named Bella.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was eleven years old my family went on vacation traveling through Utah. We stopped at the visitor center on Temple Square in Salt Lake City. I remember being impressed by the story of Joseph Smith. While visiting "This is the Place" Monument I was awed by the faithfulness of the Mormon pioneers. Sometime during our trip someone picked-up a Book of Mormon. When we came home I tried to read it but didn't get very far. Seven years went by - I attended different churches but never felt a sense of belonging. One day, a high school friend, asked me to attend church (...well maybe I invited myself). It was like all my childhood prayers had been answered. I had come home. The missionary lessons were familiar to me. I was baptized shortly thereafter. My life has not been easy. I have struggled but I never lost my faith. During my years in the church I have read and reread the Book of Mormon and the Bible several times. In 2006 my life was at a standstill...nothing...absolutely nothing was going right. Like the children of Israel I had been wandering in a personal desert of inactivity. My sister asked if I would come live with her in Minnesota. I prayed about it. Then one day my Bible fell open to Joshua 1:9, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." So here I am in Minnesota. I am active in the church again. I know that Heavenly Father answers our prayers. That He loves us and wants us to return to Him. I know that Jesus is the Christ, the promised Messiah. I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the restored church of God on the earth today. I have a testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. I believe Heavenly Father will forgive our sins if we are sincere and confess them. My testimony has gotten me through every challenge in my life. I bear witness of these things, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen

How I live my faith

The Book of Mormon teaches us that when righteousness prevails the people are blessed and prospered by the Lord. One of my passions is helping people with arrest records find meaningful and gainful employment. No one should be judged over their lifetime by a single action or deed. I believe when individuals are given a second chance, the positive collateral consequences are seen in healthier families and stronger communities.
