Hi I'm Katie Althoff

From Jersey girl to Utah girl and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Jersey girl originally, some how finding her way to Utah! Who would have thought?! Yes, I did grew up LDS. My parents were converts to the church. Moved to Pennsylvania for elementary school years and to Missouri for high school years. I attended BYU-Idaho for a few years before I served a mission for the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After returning I transferred down to BYU in Provo where I completed my degree in Elementary Education with a Minor in teaching English as a Second Language. Since Graduation I have taught first and second grade along with a career detour for a few years where I worked as a legal assistant. All of these positions have kept me in the state of Utah. I am very much a planner and one thing I have learned throughout life is that Heavenly Father has a plan for each of us. I like knowing that.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because I know it contains the truths necessary for me to live a fulfilling life so that I can return to live with God who is my Heavenly Father. I would say everyone has questions in life. This church encourages asking questions, pondering, and searching for answers. I know that I can personally receive answers through the spirit when I ask in prayer. The world offers so many different choices and it helps to have the knowledge of where I came from, why I am here, and where I am going when making decisions. I have support through difficulties as I always have a place to turn to in prayer. I have a source of guidance as I turn not only to the Bible but the Book of Mormon as well. Both books help me to better understand how to recognize the good in the world and know how to live so I can return to live with my Heavenly Father. I have safety in knowing that this church is lead by a living prophet who communicates to God in our times with the promise he will never be allowed to lead the church contrary to the desires of God. I know that my family relationships are of value, worth, and purpose and that the teachings found in this church can strengthen these relationships. I have an understanding that temples are a place where we commit to our families and to God that we will live worthy to be together forever and live life in such a way, now, that we could not imagine being without our family members. Most dear to me is knowing that I have a personal relationship with my Savior, Jesus Christ, whom I can turn to for strength. There is a purpose for the way Christ lived his life and for his suffering; being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints increases my understanding of this.

How I live my faith

One of the examples Christ showed through the way he lived his life is that of service. I have learned so much as I have had the chance to serve in so many different ways. I attend a congregation organized for single adults ages 18-31. I currently stay involved as I am the President of the women's organization in my congregation. We have over 90 sisters who come from such a variety of backgrounds and find themselves having a variety of life experiences. Women who work full-time, those whom have completed degrees in a variety of fields of study, those who are currently attending school, and those preparing to attend school for Bachelor's or Masters' Programs. Through all of our efforts we find ways to support one another in our spiritual improvement as well as our physical, social, emotional, and educational areas of life. I help to encourage that through monthly visits that we each make to specific women the need of individual women are being met. We learn together ways to apply the scriptures to the experiences we are having today. We learn together how to recognize the spirit. We learn together how to serve one another. In addition to working with the women of the church I of course remember I need to personally have an understanding of the commandments and to evaluate my actions so that I am actively living these directions. I attend the temple and have spent time volunteering to help with the work that is done in these buildings. I attend a weekly institute program where I continue to learn about the gospel and where I can socialize with friends.
