Hi I'm jackie

I'm a dog rescuer, a Colts fan,an angel-lover, a birdhouse collector, a grandmother of 5 boys and 2 girls and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My middle son is LDS and his wife and 5 children live in Utah. I get to go to Utah to see them a couple times a year. My youngest son goes to another church. My youngest son has a wife and 2 kids, I enjoy spending time with them because they only live about 30 minutes from my house. My oldest and his wife also lives about 30 minutes away the opposite direction and they meet me in the middle. He has 1 child with special needs. I raised all three of my boys all on my own, I am so proud that they are such great husbands and fathers. Especially my oldest son with his special needs child, he is very patient and loving. It is quite a challenge and I have a great love and respect for the care and love that they give my grandson. Their father was killed in an accident when they were in 3rd grade, 2nd grade and kindergarten. There was a great deal of struggle in my family growing up but my grandmother was a srength to me and helped me become the person I am today.

Why I am a Mormon

My second son joined the church while he was in college because of a friend. He also met his wife in college and she was a member too. He brought the elders to our house and I kept feeding them and they must have enjoyed my food because they kept coming back. They would always share a message and it was usually intereting to me. Eventually I became very curious and they asked if I would like to learn more about the gospel and I said yes. The Sisters came over and taught me the lessons and within about two weeks, I was ready to be baptized. As I learned about the commandments, it was very easy because I was already living my life in accordance with the gospel. Except one thing that I needed to change was that I liked to drink tea, but I was able to do that very easily because as I learned from the Sisters, they taught me the blessings that come from keeping the commandments.

How I live my faith

The Gospel is everything to me! If I miss church on Sunday, the rest of my week does not go very well. I really enjoy studying the scriptures. When I first became a member, my son gave me a large print copy of the scriptures. I like to leave them sitting out so that people will ask me questions about it. I really like to listen to the scriptures on cd and if I follow along with that, I get a lot more out of it. I switched my sunday school class so I can learn about the Book of Mormon. I also used to get the Ensign and I would leave those out so people can pick them up and learn about the gospel. I like to play on the computer and enjoy reading about my grandkids on facebook, and other than that the rest of my time goes to my dogs and my faith. People often respond to religion and especially the LDS religion very negatively and so I really like to have plenty of reading materials for them to learn more and I am always willing to send the missionaries over to meet them. I recently attended a Relief Society activity where I enjoyed learning new skills and gaining friendships with the other women in the church.
