Hi I'm Grant

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and am a huge Cubs fan. I now live in Southern California and work as a CPA. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm happily married and have a two-year-old son. As a family we enjoy finding unique restaurants to try as well as exploring our neighboring communities to enjoy the diverse scenery in Southern California. I work as an Assistant Controller for a Real Estate Investment Company and formerly worked for one of the Big Four public accounting firms in Orange County in the audit practice. For hobbies, I enjoy playing sports, especially tennis and basketball. I also enjoyed playing football and baseball when I was growing up in the Chicagoland area.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because (1) the doctrine as I have learned it growing up makes sense to me and (2) I have had experiences where the things I've learned were partnered with a connection that has touched my soul and helped me know deep down that what I have learned is from God. I truly believe God speaks to us through the Holy Ghost and when we learn His teachings and we put our full energy into finding out if those teachings are really from God that He will let us know in a way that only He can. To me that means He could speak to each of us in a different way but in a way that each of us can know He is the one communicating with us and that He is real. A big part of my faith and for being a Mormon is from reading The Book of Mormon and having the Holy Ghost touch my soul to let me know the book is the real deal. I didn't have the experience right away. I had to read the whole book first. I even prayed about it and didn't feel anything convincing right away. It took me being in a meeting with a bunch of missionaries when i was training to be a missionary where a sister missionary prayed that all those in the room who didn't know that The Book of Mormon was true would have the experience to know for sure...and right then it just came over me and I knew. I had a bunch of spiritual experiences before that on a smaller scale where I felt good about the path I was on and believed I was doing the right thing but after wanting to know so badly and really working for it, God blessed me at a time I wasn't expecting it with the experience I needed to know that The Book of Mormon is really His message and that He loves all His children and wants everyone to understand His plan for us to come home to him.

How I live my faith

I participate in my local congregation by helping the leader of our congregation, the Bishop, manage his schedule as his executive secretary. This includes setting up and attending meetings with other leaders of the congregation, arranging appointments for members of the congregation to meet with him, and just about anything else the Bishop needs help with. In the past I've helped manage the congregation's finances, I've taught Sunday School classes to the teenagers, and I've served as a leader of the adult men of the congregation among other things. I enjoy attending church every week and fulfilling my responsibilities to the congregation through my service. Staying busy and involved helps me feel connected to the other members of the congregation and I feel like I am helping create an environment where other people can have the opportunity to have those important soul-touching experiences to build and maintain their faith in God. I try my best to be a kind person and behave like Christ would behave. Going to church not only teaches me how Christ would act but also reminds me to be better when I lose focus. I definitely feel I am a better person outside of church because of my faith than I would be if I didn't attend church.
