Hi I'm Sara Marie

I'm an American in Russia, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hello! I am currently serving a mission for my church, but before now I studied English at college. My greatest passion is writing--anything, really. And when faced with a free Friday night, yes, I do choose to read books about fake people instead of associating with real people. Along with that, I love music, art, and science. I've played cello since elementary school and I sort-of-not-really sing.... I've been in multiple choirs and orchestras, competed in bunches of competitions and such. When it comes to art, I'm really bad with color, so I avoid paint, but I love to use graphite and conte crayon for various projects, all done in whatever free time I can get. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I have a keen interest in geology--everything and anything rocks and tectonics and volcanoes (and anything else that blows up). I am a proud aunt of one niece, one nephew, and one currently unknown. I have a couple of deaf siblings, so along with Russian, I speak (sign? use? know?) American Sign Language.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised and taught by two very amazing parents, both of whom have very powerful testimonies of this gospel. Through their guidance, and through my own experiences I have decided to continue to serve and love and live this church and this doctrine. It isn't just a place to go on Sundays. It is direction and happiness and peace. It is eternal friendships and eternal families. It is divine truth that lets me see beyond the smog and sadness in this world and always find the sunshine and joy. Everything I love to do--draw, sing, write, read, learn, study, discover--is magnified by the happiness and knowledge that I receive from daily study of the scriptures, from daily--rather, second-ly--communication with my Heavenly Father and my Savior, Jesus Christ, and from service to my God and to other people.

How I live my faith

Currently, I am doing nothing but living my faith. I am serving a full-time mission for our church in the Yekaterinburg, Russia mission where I am learning the language, learning the culture, and doing nothing but everything I can do to share this message I have with as many people as I am able. I am serving for 18 months, and when I come home (exhausted and happy), I will return to school and to regular life and continue to serve in my church in whatever way I can.
